Calo has announced its withdrawal from the UK market with a heartfelt message to customers.
The Bahrain-founded meal delivery player only arrived on UK shores in March 2025, absorbing local competitors Fresh Fitness Food and Detox Kitchen.
In the 14 months since, Calo has been recognised with multiple awards, including being championed as the UK’s Best Healthy Meal Delivery Service by both Good Housekeeping and Men’s Fitness.
Despite the positive introduction, Calo is bringing an end to the short but sweet chapter and bidding farewell to the UK.
“The UK has been a meaningful chapter,” the brand wrote in an announcement. “Since launching in March 2025, Calo built a brilliant team and served an incredible community of customers.
“The decision to step back is one that has been taken thoughtfully.”
What’s Next For Calo?
The brand says it’s refocusing on its core GCC markets and “expansion into new verticals”, where it continues to see “strong demand and momentum” across Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman.
Initially born in the Middle East, Calo has sold multiple millions of meals in the region and will now pool its resources to double down on that success.
“We are enormously proud of what we have built in the UK and deeply grateful to our customers, partners and team for everything they made possible,” said Caspar Rose, general manager of Calo UK and former CEO of Fresh Fitness Food.
Rose will continue with the brand as he transitions to leading its deployment of AI globally. For him, and many UK customers, this spells the end of an era – one that predates 2025 by some distance.
Responding to the news, many said they had been with Fresh Fitness Food for almost a decade, switching their plans to Calo when it merged with the business last year.
The final date for orders was 31 May, meaning customers will now receive their last deliveries throughout June before looking elsewhere for an alternative provider.
