Superhuman Games

Every summer, hundreds of athletes descend on Bristol for one of the UK’s most well known hybrid fitness competitions. The Superhuman Games has been running since 2013, and over the years it has built a reputation as one of the toughest and most fun events on the UK fitness calendar.

The 2026 edition of the Superhuman Games takes place on Saturday 4th July at Greville Smyth Sports Ground, where competitors will spend the day tackling a series of demanding workouts designed to test every corner of their fitness.

What makes the Superhuman Games stand out is the setting. This isn’t a polished indoor arena event. It’s an outdoor competition with a raw, energetic atmosphere where athletes spend the entire day grinding through workouts with their teammates.

Five workouts. One full day of competition

The Superhuman Games is built around five separate workouts spread across the day. Each workout lasts 20 minutes, and the goal is always the same. Complete as many laps of the challenge as possible before the clock runs out.

Every year the exact movements change, but the themes of the workouts stay consistent. Athletes know the type of test that’s coming, but the details are only revealed around 12 weeks before the event.

Strength & Honour is where the heavy work usually appears. Expect big strongman style movements like tyre flips, heavy sandbags, and dragging awkward objects across the field.

Brutal Beat Down brings the pace up with fast moving bodyweight work designed to test conditioning and full body endurance.

Unconventional Beast leans into odd object carries. Logs, blocks, kegs and anything else that refuses to sit nicely on your shoulders tend to show up here.

The Assault Course workout is exactly what it sounds like. A military style obstacle course where teams work together to rack up as many laps as possible.

VO2 Max finishes the day with a brutal engine test that often includes running, rucking, and hill efforts.

Who are the Superhuman Games for?

One of the things people love about the Superhuman Games is the variety of athletes it attracts.

Military personnel, CrossFit athletes, obstacle course racers, personal trainers, and everyday gym goers all show up ready to take on the challenge. The workouts are tough, but they’re designed so people of different abilities can compete together.

Athletes can enter as a team of four or compete in pairs across men’s, women’s, and mixed categories. Each category is also split into age groups, which keeps the competition fair while still keeping the atmosphere relaxed and supportive.

After more than a decade on the UK fitness scene, the Superhuman Games has built a loyal following. For anyone who enjoys functional fitness competitions with a bit of grit and personality, this is one event that always delivers.
