Jessica Sepel: The Entrepreneur Behind JSHealth & Her Incredible Success Story

JSHealth has become one of the biggest names in wellness, vitamins, and supplements over the last few years.

Helping people live a healthy lifestyle with an app, an 8-week Kickstarter program, healthy living books, and an extensive range of vitamins, Jessica Sepel has created something really special with JSHealth

But how much do you know about the woman behind it and her journey to where she is today?

Jessica was born in South Africa in 1989, and she lived there with her parents until the family moved to Sydney, Australia when she was 13. She studied at Macquarie University there and has a Bachelor of Health degree as well as an Advanced Diploma in Nutritional Medicine.

JSHealth started as a blog, back in the early 2010s, where Jessica wrote about her own personal struggles with fad diets and issues with body image. She’s been really open about her experience with disordered eating and how she eventually overcame it.

The site has evolved over the years and is now an amazing resource full of deliciously healthy recipes, advice about nutrition and fitness, and tips on healthy living and wellbeing.

It was writing this blog that led to Jessica becoming a published author in 2015.

Her first book was ‘The Healthy Life’, packed with over 100 healthy recipes and advice for glowing skin, better sleep, and less stress.

In the book, Jessica shares her 10 principles for a healthier life as well as tips on balancing your blood sugar for more energy and building a positive relationship with food.

Jess really did take everything she’s learnt over the years, both as a nutritionist and through her own experiences and put it into this book to help other people overhaul their lifestyles in a balanced, enjoyable way.

‘Living the Healthy Life’, Jessica’s second book, was released in 2017.

It’s an 8-week plan to help anyone who’s had issues with fad dieting in the past to heal their relationship with food and find a more balanced approach.

Along with advice on building positive relationships with yourself and with food, Jess shares advice on eating out, healthy on-the-go snacks, and mindful and intuitive eating.

Oh, and there are 160 recipes in this book so you won’t be short of inspiration for tasty, wholesome meals to cook.

The third of Jessica’s books, ‘The 12-step mind-body-food reset’ came along in 2019 and is basically a handbook that walks you through JSHealth’s most powerful principles.

These principles help you leave fad dieting behind and find balance with food and make peace with (and even learn to love) your body. This is what JSHealth was founded on and what it still stands for today.

With the website, Jessica offers advice and information that will help you shift your mindset and find balance in your life, instead of obsessing over food and calories. There are also hundreds of recipes to try out, all developed to be super tasty as well as balanced and nutritious.

For breakfast, you might want to try one of Jess’ smoothie bowls,  or her French toast with maple strawberries that really proves you don’t have to give up delicious foods to eat a balanced diet.

And for dinner, you could enjoy chickpea and sweet potato curry or her super speedy 10-minute Napoletana pasta. There are recipes for all your main meals as well as for side dishes and salads, and snacks and sweets.

We really love the fact that JSHealth is all about balance and enjoying food, so there are recipes for things like chocolate chip cupcakes, gooey mocha brownies, and peanut butter choc-chip cookies that have all been tweaked to taste great as well as be great for you.

And if there somehow aren’t enough recipes for you on the JSHealth site, then you can get even more by downloading the app that Jess launched in 2018. You do have to pay for it ($59.99 per year) but it is jam-packed with workouts, recipes, health guides, a daily meal planner, and a nutrition clinic.

New recipes are added each week and there are even guided video tutorials you can follow to cook alongside Jess if you’re not all that confident in the kitchen.

You can create your own meal plans from the recipes in the app, and there’s even a really useful shopping list feature that you can use so you don’t forget anything when you head to the supermarket.

As for the workouts, there are loads of options to pick from including pilates, yoga, HIIT, and barre and they’re suitable for all fitness levels.  So there are no excuses not to get started! Jess herself aims to fit in just 20 minutes of movement each day.  She says, “When it comes to working out, I’m all about exercising less, but smarter’.

So she chooses exercises that are efficient but that also feel good and that she actually enjoys doing, after years of forcing herself to complete gruelling workouts with the sole goal of being thin. Along with this idea of moving your body in ways that you enjoy, Jess has some other top tips for fueling your body and building a balanced relationship with food.

She recommends eating seasonally as much as possible, saying “fresh, whole foods should be a priority, and eating in season means food is nutritionally superior”.  So take some time to learn what foods are in season and build your meal plans around those foods.

Jess is also a big fan of protein and she makes a point of starting her day with a protein-rich breakfast as well as enjoying a protein-based snack at about 4 in the afternoon. To really make sure you’re taking care of yourself though, and getting all the vitamins and nutrients you need, it’s worth considering taking some supplements.

And Jessica has got you covered here too with JSHealth Vitamins. She launched the vitamin range in 2016 and has made a huge success of it, in spite of a massive initial setback where she was scammed out of $10,000 for samples that were never delivered.

With her husband by her side, she powered through and now JSHealth Vitamins is one of the best-selling ranges out there.

Jess knows how overwhelming it can be to find the right supplements, so she’s developed formulas that address the most common issues people want help with, from lack of energy and mood swings to bloating and hair loss. And she’s clearly onto something, with a JSHealth product being sold somewhere in the world every 27 seconds.

With everything she’s got going on in this amazing empire she’s built, it’s a good thing Jess knows a thing or two about finding balance!

And whether you’re right at the start of your journey of finding more balance in your own life, you want some inspiration for new nutritious recipes to try, or you want to boost your well-being with carefully formulated vitamins, JSHealth has got you covered.
