To quote Game of Thrones, ‘Winter is Coming’, and you know what that means, so is the internationally recognised season of comfort eating.
Yes, over the next few months, we’ll all be gorging our way through warming winter meals with all diets fully abandoned by Christmas. Gyms will then be rammed full of fitness hopefuls looking to start 2023 off on the right foot. As we know, many of those people will fall away by February owing to a lack of motivation and poor results.
If all of this sounds very familiar, then we have put together a little how-to-get fit cheat sheet with some golden rules on how to get fit. Let’s jump straight in.
How To Get FIT
Work out your macros and track your calories
Losing and gaining weight, for most people, is a relatively straightforward concept. If you want to shred fat then you need to be in a calorie deficit, and if you want to pack on muscle and size then you need to be in a calorie surplus. Sounds pretty simple, right? Well, that’s because fundamentally it is. For those of you that say you don’t have the time to track what you’re eating, I’m afraid that’s simply not true. Apps like MyFitnessPal make it incredibly easy to log your lunch or dinner right after you’ve had it. Instead of scrolling through a couple of TikToks before you get back to work, why not do something for your own progression first?

The trick to eating within your macros is being prepared. But I get it, some days it’s harder to find the motivation or time to meal prep than others. Consistency is key, and while many influencers will shove that down your throat, others understand full-time jobs and family commitments get in the way of having the perfect washboard abs. But here’s the thing, it’s still better to calculate your macros and track your food, even on the days you know you may not have done enough. At least that way you can visualise it, and you can start to get a feel for what you need to be eating and when building an understanding of why the results aren’t coming as quickly as you might have hoped.
Plus, it saves you money. When I started training I was eating as much protein as humanly possible to ‘get swole’ in the shortest space of time. The reality of that is half of it did nothing more than create expensive pee (gross, I know).

Find the perfect gym
Let me tell you a little secret. I’ve been training for around eight years, I weigh 90kg, I’m a fully grown man with a beard and yet I still feel intimidated in some gyms. It’s not even because of the people, either. Some training spots just have a certain vibe which I can’t connect with. Maybe it’s because they’re too cramped, too busy, I genuinely don’t know.

The reason I’m telling you that is because I’m a big believer in finding a gym which feels right for you. Some people like an old traditional Spit’n’Sawdust weights room with rusty equipment which turns your hands a weird kind of coppery grey colour, while others like the neon lights and thumping music of nightclub-style city spin rooms. There’s no right or wrong, and what can be classed as a ‘good gym’ is largely subjective to what you want from your training.
For example, you may see it as a social space as well as somewhere to work out. Some may view it as a checkbox exercise which needs to be completed with their hood up and minimal contact with those around them. Basically, what I’m trying to say is if you find an environment which you instantly click with, your training and gains will benefit from it exponentially. Trust me.
At Gymfluencers, we want to help make that happen for you. That’s why we offer free day passes to a ton of great gyms. Check them out!
Find the perfect fitness coach
Sometimes you can be the enemy of your own progress. Losing motivation and viewing the gym as a chore rather than approaching it with drive and hunger is the beginning of the end for your gains. And we’ve all been there, bar the few people on this planet with a cast iron mentality, training regularly comes with an unfortunate reality that, at some point, you’ll run out of steam. I like to think of it as treading water. I might not be doing enough to actually get anywhere, but I’m just about staying afloat.
Regardless of your experience in the gym, getting a good coach is a surefire way to break out of that malaise. They may not tell you anything you don’t already know, but what they will do is set you more aggressive targets and hold you accountable if you aren’t hitting them. There’s no shame in it, even the world’s top bodybuilders and athletes still have coaches for that very reason. Our body’s natural instinct is to find the easy way out, so don’t let it.

Of course, you may be completely new to the gym, in which case getting a trainer to build up your confidence is one of the best things you can do. Think of it as an investment, they’ll show you the way and from there you can complete the rest of the journey on your own.
At Gymfluencers, we’ve scoured the net for the best online coaches so that you don’t have to. Choose from more than 100 experts in body transformation, muscle gain and bodybuilding, weight gain, fat and weight loss and more.
Use the best supplements
When you really start to find your feet with training and getting fit, looking into the different supplementation options can often feel like revisiting A-Level science. What are all these ‘Bs’, ‘Cs’ and ‘As’ I’m meant to be taking and what do they all do? While eating a clean diet will get you so far, adding some extra supplementation into the mix can make a real difference – especially as we head into winter.
Common products like BCCA tablets will help increase fat loss, energy levels and muscle gain, while vitamins and minerals will keep your body ticking over as the temperature gets colder. Remember, you’ll be no good in the gym if you can’t pick up a weight for two seconds without having to wipe your nose.
We offer a great range of discounts on a bunch of supplements, proteins and even meal-prep deals which will make your life a whole lot easier. Grab yourself a bargain today.
