People across the length and breadth of the country are feeling the squeeze of the current cost of living crisis, and it has led to many taking tough decisions on where they can cut back to save an extra few pounds a month.
Being able to train in a gym and keep yourself fit and healthy shouldn’t be a luxury, but sadly, as prices soar it is fast becoming a commodity many can’t afford.
But for residents in Bransholme in Hull, working out has just become a whole lot cheaper thanks to the opening of a new community gym.
Pollards Community Gym is a new low-cost space which costs just £3 for a daily pass or £15 a month, payable by direct debit or standing order.
The new spot sits on the site of what was formerly North Bransholme Community Centre and is open every day apart from Saturday to anyone 16 or above.
Speaking to Hull Live, Sonny Pollard, gym director, said: “We feel it’s very beneficial as fitness has been proven to help mental health and with the cost living crisis at the moment we feel this is very important. We are hoping to make it a real community hub.
“Hopefully the local community will come and support the low monthly fee as we tried to make it as affordable as possible for them. Everyone has been hit hard at the moment, us included, but again with the low monthly fee we hope that they will support.”
The gym has a host of rooms filled with various equipment for strength and cardio training. It forms part of the Paul Ingle Boxing Academy which also works alongside Isabella’s Cafe.
He added: “We work with local schools and also do events for the local community. We are looking to start a food bank this coming winter – again, to try and help the local community.”
