Tommy Fury has called on Jake Paul to honour their ‘All-Or-Nothing’ bet after the American boasted about making $30m from his defeat.
The online sensation lost to Fury by a split decision on Sunday in front of a star-studded audience. Boxing legend Mike Tyson and Cristiano Ronaldo were in attendance to watch the YouTuber slip to the first defeat of his professional career.
During a heated press conference last week, a confident Jake Paul suggested a deal that would see the winner take all the money, and the loser walk away empty-handed.
Fury’s dad, John, initially agreed to the deal, before the pair met in the middle of the stage to seal it with a handshake. However, Paul later came out and said Fury failed to sign an updated contract that would have seen it printed in black and white.
In light of his victory, Fury has now urged Paul to honour the deal regardless. Speaking on the popular breakfast show Good Morning Britain, he said: “At the end of the day we were live on television and we shook hands, you take that how you want to take it. We’re old-fashioned guys, so a handshake means everything to us. Let’s see if he honours it or not.”
John Fury has also been hot on Paul’s tail. “Good morning world, Jake Paul and family,’ the 58-year-old began on his Instagram story. “Back home, well rested, hence back on business.
“Jake, you know what I’m gonna do. We had a deal mate, we had a handshake. We said we’d box for free if we got defeated…”
The video cut off before John could finish his sentence, but it seemed as if he too was suggesting Paul should make good on his promise, signature or not.
While Paul is yet to officially respond, his manager, business partner and co-promoter at Most Valuable Promotions, Nakisa Bidarian, said: “Dear John, congratulations on the win. I’ve grown to highly respect you off-camera. However, this statement is shocking given what you said to me at his Highness’s house on Friday evening and the correspondence from your/Tommy’s lawyer.
“Moreover, our team has you on camera refusing to agree to the deal the night of the fight. With all that said, fair play to Tommy on a gear performance. You have raised a great young man. Hopefully, he has the courage to do it again. Best, Nakisa.”
Boxing journalist Michael Benson posted the statement to Twitter and Paul quickly retweeted it, suggesting it’s unlikely he’s going to part with any of his healthy purse.
