Alex Pereira stunned the crowd at UFC 303 with an incredible head kick knockout, retaining his light heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka. The thrilling bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas saw Pereira drop Prochazka to the canvas with a powerful left head kick just seconds into the second round. The referee was then forced to step in and stop the fight as Pereira followed up with a relentless round of strikes.
Conor McGregor was originally set to headline the event, but a broken toe pushed back his return to UFC. Stepping in on short notice, Pereira and Prochazka delivered a captivating performance, trading heavy blows in the first round. Pereira’s leg kicks found their mark, while Prochazka responded with his own powerful left hooks.
In the second round, Pereira wasted no time in asserting his dominance. A perfectly timed head kick floored Prochazka, and the follow-up strikes left the referee no choice but to stop the fight.
And in a post-match interview he revealed that the kick was all part of his plan to walk away from the Octagon with his title still intact. He said that he came up with the idea in the locker room, commenting “I saw the video of him warming up, and he was trying to counter the calf kick, but I noticed his timing wasn’t good… he was too focused on avoiding the calf kick, so he was open for a head kick”.
With this win meaning Pereira successfully defended his title for the second time, he clearly made the right choice with going for the kick!
