Applied Nutrition Critical Whey ‘Rebuilt’ With More Protein and Unique Flavours

Applied Nutrition Critical Whey has been ‘rebuilt’ as the international brand aims to set a new standard for the category.

The glow-up sees more protein added — albeit at a marginally larger serving size — alongside five new flavours, each with its own unique edge.

The polished formula was introduced by a tongue-in-cheek video of UFC star and brand ambassador Paddy Pimblett standing on tubs of Dymatize and Optimum Nutrition proteins to reach Critical Whey from the top shelf.

But what exactly has changed? Here’s what you need to know about the overhaul.

Applied Nutrition Critical Whey: Viral New Flavours

Leading the refresh for Applied Nutrition Critical Whey are five new flavours, which the supplement giant says have been optimised for taste and texture.

Caramel Latte and Frappuccino varieties deliver an authentic coffeehouse experience with 100mg of natural caffeine in every two-scoop serving.

Also getting its own unique spin is Banana Strawberry Smoothie — a newcomer developed in partnership with 150-year-old banana brand Chiquita.

The innovation sees every shake deliver the same potassium punch as a real banana.

Rounding out the quintet is White Chocolate Pistachio and Vanilla Matcha — two flavours very much in keeping with viral foodie trends.

Applied Nutrition Critical Whey is now available in 13 options online, with each one Informed-Sport Certified, Informed-Protein Certified, and promising smoother-than-ever delivery.

The Protein Upgrade

Not too much has changed with the protein content in Applied Nutrition’s signature blend. It still relies on a grass-fed milk protein matrix, consisting of whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, whey protein hydrolysate, and milk protein concentrate.

The total protein per shake has climbed to 24g, though that’s been accompanied by a slight increase in serving size to 33g.

Nevertheless, the revamped Applied Nutrition Critical Whey offers a better protein concentration than its predecessor — which packed 20–21g for a 30g serving — but not by a wide margin.

The real meat in this release seems to be the promise of refined flavour and mixability, alongside the fun and functional inclusions in the new varieties.

And at a starting point of 120 calories, it remains a highly effective tool for building lean muscle.

Tubs are available in 2kg or 825g sizes, priced at £54.95 and £29.95 respectively. Subscribing to regular deliveries through Applied Nutrition’s online store will save you 10%.
