Golf fans get ready! The U.S Open 2026 will be played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, from 18 to 21 June, with 156 competitors in the field for the 126th edition of the championship. 

Shinnecock has hosted the U.S Open five times before, and is one of the most famous courses in American golf. 

Known for its challenging, links-style layout and coastal winds it’s set to be a demanding test for both the amateurs and the pros in the final competition.  

The road to the U.S Open 2026

There’s also plenty happening before championship week even starts. 

Local qualifying, played over 18 holes, will take place at 108 sites from 20 April to 18 May. 

Final qualifying, played over 36 holes, is then scheduled across 13 sites from 18 May to 8 June. 

And for the player who comes through it all and wins, there’s a lot more than just the title on offer. 

The champion will receive the Jack Nicklaus Medal, custody of the U.S Open Trophy for one year, a place in the next 10 U.S Open Championships, and exemptions into the next five editions of the Masters Tournament, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship. 

Their name will also be inscribed on the 2026 USGA Champions’ plaque in the USGA Museum’s Hall of Champions.

So if you’re watching the U.S Open 2026 from home or following it all through the week, there’ll be plenty to keep you locked in. A packed field, a famous host course, and everything building towards the final round on 21 June is a pretty good recipe for a huge few days of golf.
