Everything you need to know about Olympic gold medalist Tom McEwen

British equestrian Tom McEwen helped Team GB to their first gold medal of the Paris 2024 Games in the Team Eventing competition.

The Swindon-born competitor rode alongside Laura Collett and Ros Canter at the Chateau du Versailles, pipping the French on their own soil to earn first place on the podium.

McEwen turned in a terrific display in the penultimate leg of the jumping course, setting Collett up to confirm gold with a performance he described as “poetry in motion”.

Here’s everything you need to know about Team GB’s gold medalist.

Tom McEwen Career Highlights

The 33-year-old has enjoyed plenty of success in Team Eventing. His first taste of gold came in 2018 at the World Championships in North Carolina.

Just two years later, McEwen would go on to win gold again, securing the top spot as part of a trio at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Tokyo proved a happy hunting ground for McEwen, who also earned Silver in the Individual Eventing discipline.

Unfortunately, McEwen was pipped to an individual medal in Paris. But things weren’t all doom and gloom as teammate Laura Collette secured bronze.

Life Outside The Olympics

McEwen was presented with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to equestrianism.

When he’s not preparing himself for competitions, McEwen trains young, talented horses at his base in the Gloucestershire countryside.
