In a sad state of affairs Eddy Ellwood, former Mr Universe in court after breaking Covid rules when he kept his gym open during the lockdowns.
After hearing of a member committing suicide during the first lockdown, Eddy Ellwood the owner of Xtreme Fitness decided to step up and open his facility on reduced hours to let people train, talk and continue on with their normal lives. For reduced hours only Eddy is claiming he opened his gym as a form of a peaceful protest but the court’s are not having it as the trial continues.
With fears of further members taking their lives and knowing that they are facing mental health struggles, Eddy continued to run his gym and looking back on it all he says he would do it again quoting “Gyms are not about fitness, they are about supporting each other. They are mental health hospitals”.
The issue stands whether or not he was still charging these members and the amount of Covid rules that were broken. As the trial continues Ellwood is facing closure, fines and even possible prison time.
