We’re back again with another protein bar review and this time we’re sampling the Get Nourished taster box. A chocoholic’s temptation and absolutely guilt-free – now that’s tasty. Is it worth the hype and should you get Nourished? Let’s see.
About Get Nourished
Before we dig in (literally), I always think it’s important to do a bit of due diligence on the brands I review. No one escapes my quizzical eye!
Although you’re reading all about the Get Nourished protein bars, the team actually began as a vitamin company. In 2018, founder Melissa Snover came up with the idea for a more convenient way of taking vitamins. I get it, there’s Vitamin B this and magnesium that, it’s enough to lose your head over!
Instead, Get Nourished creates bespoke vitamin gummies designed for your needs. So you don’t need to pop a million pills to get the benefits your body wants.
Melissa is also a certified nutritionist; her craft and knowledge have therefore been embodied in the products – including the protein bars.
Trying the Get Nourished Taster Box
Now, I’ve been around the block when it comes to protein bars – you could call me a connoisseur of sorts. Suffice to say, I have une petite expérience in trial testing and spotting the difference between a good-tasting protein bar from a bad one. Also, I eat them religiously when I’m struggling to hit my macros goal; they’re small but mighty!
I ordered a Get Nourished taster box for just £9.99 – that’s a bargain if you ask me! – with 5 bars of joy. One thing that drew me to Nourished protein bars is the fact that they’re vegan. I’m trying to reduce my meat impact too, a) respect the animals and, b) save the planet. So these bars definitely made me feel a little less guilty about my contribution to world destruction.
In a speedy 2 days, the taster box arrived at my door. The 5 flavours can only be described as a chocolate dream, and I have a very sweet tooth. I received: chocolate orange, caramel hazelnut, mint chocolate, blueberry cheesecake and knickerbocker glory. A very good selection to get a feel for the variety on offer.
Is Nourished Nutritious?
An important question: are the Nourished bars really nutritious? Short answer: yes! They pack around 18g per bar and less than 2.5g of sugar. These bars also contain healthy ingredients including soy protein, oat flour (for slow carb release) and coconut oil, which boosts healthy hair and skin.
The bars are a little more calorie-dense than regular protein bars, averaging at around 300 cals per bar. This is great if you’re looking to bulk up or want to increase calories easily on the go.
It’s also important to note that Nourished bars have a higher fat content than others like Grenade or Fulfil protein bars. In fact, each bar contains around 13g of fat (8g of which are saturates).
Now, this isn’t to put you off! It just means these bars are a little more nutritionally dense. Regardless, they can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet or incorporated into a meal plan.
Putting Nourished to the Taste Test
Taste: 7.5/10
Each bar was very authentic to its name, they weren’t synthetic tasting or sickly. The soy protein was virtually tasteless. The white and milk chocolate were both at a nice sweet level, too. Goes extremely well with a cuppa!
Texture: 8/10
The bars weren’t powdery like some, had a good crunch and almost a creamy, nougat-like texture. The best part is that the Nourished bars aren’t claggy, so you don’t feel that constant need to lick your teeth clean after.
Appearance: 9/10
Each bar had a coating of smooth chocolate with decoration on top, like crushed hazelnuts or biscuits. One look and you’re salivating. (Trust me.)
I found the bars quite filling, but not sickly. They definitely curb cravings and keep you satisfied until your next meal. I personally think they’d make a great pre or post-gym snack, as they have the double whammy: protein and carb combo for muscle performance and recovery.
The caramel hazelnut flavour genuinely tasted like Nutella in a biscuit; the chocolate orange was like a replica of Terry’s original. I had low expectations, but boy, they nailed it!
However, to really put Nourished bars to the test, the only way to find out if they’re yummy is if a non-protein junky (like me) enjoys them.
True review from a non-fitness person on Nourished Bars
Now, my sister is what we’d label a chocoholic. I mean that girl could absolutely under no circumstances survive without chocolate; she eats it daily and knows her brands from her fakes. (Note: American chocolate does not pass the test.)
With that in mind, I know her tingling taste buds will be able to distinguish whether Nourished protein bars are legit.
To ensure this little experiment was fair, with no confounding variables (yes, Miss Searle, I still remember year 9 chemistry class) I didn’t tell her it was a protein bar. Why? Because she would have immediately seen right through the bullcrap. It would have jarred her opinion before the bar even touched her lips. We need real data!
Does Nourished taste like a chocolate bar?
This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. My sister tried a bite of the mint chocolate bar as it’s one of her favourite flavours. Here’s her honest feedback…
Taste: 5/10
“The mint chocolate bar is nice, but the rest is a little bland”. Tough crowd.
Texture: 7/10
“The crunch is great, it smells really delicious, but it’s a little bit powdery.” Interesting.
Appearance: 7/10
“It looks chunky, a decent size and I like the decoration on top”. Yay!
Overall, my sister wasn’t as convinced as I was. She is a hard nut to crack. So it looks like we’ve got some mixed reviews… But I’d definitely order them again!
