Another Drop, Another Sellout? The Onyx V5 Saga Continues
There’s a sense of déjà vu creeping in with Onyx V5.
Last Thursday, Gymshark dropped a limited-edition Midnight colourway of its most sought-after collection.
The blacked-out offering was exclusively for fans in certain membership tiers of its new loyalty programme.
That, however, didn’t make much difference to the outcome. True to form, the cult compression tops sold out within 19 minutes — though plenty argue it was even quicker.
That announcement was accompanied by the words, “More information coming soon.”
And if you’ve been following this whole saga, I think you know where this is going. On Friday, Gymshark confirmed the Onyx storyline isn’t done yet.

“Onyx returns. Again. October,” a post on the brand’s Instagram read.
Here’s what we know about this latest twist.
Onyx V5 Reloaded (Again)
If it feels like we’ve been here before, it’s because we have. Gymshark deployed the same tactic after the initial online drop was cleared out in just 25 minutes.
That was back in May, and fans had to wait until July for a shot at redemption.
A ditch-and-switch event with Onyx V5 poster boy David Laid did take place in NYC in the interim. Though that did little to satisfy the appetite of the global community.
When the online restock did finally arrive last week, there were conditions. Not only was it limited to the Midnight colourway, but also to loyalty members in tiers 2–4.
Gymshark said this was done to ensure Onyx only ended up in the hands of real fans, not bots. Still, plenty of eligible hopefuls said they missed out once again.

Cue the inevitable deluge of resale listings on sites like eBay.
Whether October will see a return to the three core colourways — Onyx Grey, Carmine Red, and the returning icon Brand Blue — or more of Midnight Black is unclear.
The mechanics of the drop will also likely remain a mystery until closer to the time. Don’t be surprised if Gymshark sticks to the loyalty release blueprint.
Tweaks, however, seem necessary to keep fans onboard.
There’s a developing unrest with Onyx V5, and this next drop has to be nailed if Gymshark wants to stay ahead of emerging American contender YoungLA in the battle of the superhero-style compression tops.
What Fans Are Saying
This latest revelation drew a mixed reaction from fans. Understandable excitement was diluted by plenty of sarcasm from those who are growing tired of seeing the words “sold out” on their browser.
“We stopped caring when y’all fumbled the last two drops,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another said: “Wow, thanks for the notice! Can’t wait until October when it sells out in 2 minutes!”
“Omg creating hype again,” a third added. “Just do the pre-order guys, or check your system to see how many customers are tier 2–4 and make enough stock to cover the demand.”
Even so, the post drew over 25,000 likes from people still very much onboard the Onyx V5 hype train. Make no mistake: the demand for this drop hasn’t fizzled out, despite a fraction of the fanbase becoming disengaged.
Stay tuned for more updates.
