I’ve been in a bit of a rut over the last few months. A dinner rut to be precise. My husband and I were eating the same few meals on rotation and were starting to feel pretty uninspired by dinner time.
But all that changed when I gave HelloFresh a try.
The hope was that HelloFresh would introduce us to some new meal ideas and get us excited about dinner again, so I jumped right in and ordered 4 meals for 2 for our first week.
The meals I choose were:
- Stir-fried hoisin chicken noodles
- Cheesy Mexican style beef hash
- Quick and sticky beef
- Halloumi and roasted pepper rigatoni
The idea for me was to pick out recipes that we hadn’t tried before, but with flavours that we were pretty certain, we liked and would enjoy.
I wanted to keep away from meals that we already have in our repertoire, which did mean I had to turn down a stunning-looking meal of burgers and wedges. But it was so worth it to try some new things and widen our dinner horizons!
What I love so much about Hello Fresh is the fact that all the ingredients you need are provided in perfectly portioned packages. So you have just what you need to make each meal and there’s no food waste at all.
This is one thing that can put me off trying new recipes that I find online, especially if they include ingredients that I haven’t tried before and don’t already have on hand at home. I don’t want to buy a whole bottle of hoisin sauce or a big piece of fresh ginger to then only use a bit of it in a new recipe and then have it languish in the fridge if I’m not a fan of the end result.
With HelloFresh there’s no risk of that, so it’s an amazing way to try new tastes without worrying about food waste if you don’t love the meal enough to want to cook it again any time soon.
And if you DO love the meals that you try with Hello Fresh then you can easily make them again for yourself thanks to the handy recipe cards that come in the box.
As well as making the cooking process super simple by walking you through the recipe step by step, the cards also tell you how much of each ingredient is used so you can make it again another time.
HelloFresh is also a great option if you’re keeping an eye on your calorie intake. There were lots of recipes to choose from that were lower in calories (2 of the meals I picked came in under 650 calories), as well as a good mix of meat-based meals and vegetarian options.
The portion sizes are great too, keeping both me and my 6’ 4” husband full, and they actually helped us reassess how much food we would normally serve up for dinner!
If you’re in a bit of a dinner rut like I was, then I highly recommend giving HelloFresh a try. It has introduced me to loads of new meal ideas and got me looking forward to dinner each night.
They’ve got a great range of different meals to pick from each week, with recipes that take from as little as 20 minutes to make. It’s just a brilliant way to try new ideas and experiment with new flavours and get you excited about dinner again.
