If you’ve seen any clips from Jake Gyllenhaal’s latest release, Road House then you’ll be well aware of the incredible shape the guy got into to take on the role of ex-UFC fighter Dalton. In a recent YouTube video Men’s Health have gone behind the scenes with his trainer Jason Walsh to find out what exactly went into building this insane physique.
So let’s take a look at Jake Gyllenhaal’s workout routine that Walsh built for him at his Rising Movement studio in LA.
The routine took into account the needs and expectations of loads of different people involved in the making of Road House, from the producer and the director, to Jake himself. And it was created to build Jake’s athleticism, resiliency, and overall strength.
In the video Walsh talks us through the 12 moves that Jake used in his workouts, which are:
- Mobility Drills
- Proteus Motion Drills
- Isometric Inverted Row Holds
- Sled Work
- Safety Bar Squat
- Forearm Drills
- Offset Loading Bag Drills
- Swiss Bar Floor Press
- Chain Pushups
- Suspension Trainer Push-Pull
- Push-Pull Rips
- Climber Sprints
It’s well worth a watch of the video as Walsh explains the part each move plays in building Jake’s physique. Take the Proteus Motion Drills, for example. He talks about how Jake used the Proteus for boxing moves to help train rotational power and build core strength.
What’s great though is that the video also shows you ways you can replicate a lot of the moves at home, even if you don’t have the equipment that Jake uses.
It is worth keeping in mind that Walsh himself recognises that maintaining a body like the one Jake built for the film isn’t sustainable, but it’s still incredible to watch the effort that he put into getting both his body and his mind in shape for filming.
