If you’ve ever thought of doing a spot of DIY or building something yourself at home to save a few quid, then you might want to think again after watching the latest video from YouTuber Jay Swingler.
In the YouTube video, titled ‘I nearly burnt down my house with a DIY sauna…’, Jay lays out the whole story. He decided to see if he could build himself a sauna in his back garden for under £500. And it turns out he could, but he really, really shouldn’t have after the whole thing caught on fire.
In an attempt to keep costs down, Jay built his sauna mostly out of wooden pallets he picked up from Facebook marketplace. He used them for the floor, walls, and ceiling, and also stripped some down to make the seating. And honestly, the whole thing didn’t look too shabby.
The problem was with the fact that you really shouldn’t build something like this unless you know what you’re doing. And Jay clearly didn’t, as he put the furnace too close to the walls. Which, being made of wood, caught on fire.
After initially trying to put out the blaze with a garden hose, Swingler ended up needing to call the fire brigade out to deal with it properly. Wrapping up the video Jay had this to say, “We got a sauna for cheap and what I can say right now is the outcome of doing it the cheap way, it was not worth it, and I do not advise anyone to do this”. And that’s a message we can support – don’t try this at home folks!
