The initial 30 days of a cut can be the hardest to get through, whether you’ve been through the process before or it’s your first time giving it a go. Luckily Joe Delaney is on hand to walk us through those first 30 days, with a video on his YouTube channel where he breaks the whole thing down in a step by step guide.
Joe opens by recommending that you actually start 10 days before your cut, with a maintenance testing phase. While Joe says it’s not essential to do this, he does reckon it’s good practice to get your own baseline for the calories you need.
Once you get started you need to be tracking your weight each day so you can adjust your calorie intake depending on how much weight you’re losing. And Joe also advises you take photos and videos at the start and end of the 30 days. This is because sometimes you can see results in the mirror that don’t quite show on the scales.
Joe goes on to say that for the first 17 days of your cut you should reduce your calories but keep your activity levels the same, before gradually adding in a small amount more movement. Then, towards the end of the 30 days, check how much weight you’re losing and either decrease your calories, increase your activity levels, or do a bit of both if the numbers on the scale aren’t going down quickly enough.
Joe’s approach is very much to keep things as easy as you can, for as long as you can, so that you actually stick to your cut and don’t end up undoing all your hard work. It’s solid advice, and something that clearly works for him!
It’s well worth checking out the whole 11 minute video for yourself because Joe really does break down the whole process into simple, understandable actions that help take the guesswork out of getting into shape. So if you’ve been overindulging lately and want to make some changes, go and give it a watch!
