Just How Good For You Is Halo Top Ice Cream?

As any long-term gym sufferer will know, the more you stick to a strict diet the more you start to crave life’s little indulgences. Me personally, I’ve found a hack in Halo Top Ice Cream. But we’ll get to that in a second.

There are some admirable people among us who have channelled their inner sensei and trained their minds to reject temptation, but for the lion’s share of us weak-willed and flawed individuals sweat treats somehow manage to find their way past our lips at regular intervals.

However, life, and training, is all about balance, and there are some snacks that are considered ‘less bad’ than others when eaten in moderation. Take dark chocolate for example.

It contains an abundance of powerful antioxidants that make it into the bloodstream and protect lipoproteins against oxidative damage.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have goodies that provide little to no nutritional benefit. Unfortunately, ice cream falls in that category.

High in carbs, fat and sugar, ice cream has always been a once-in-a-blue-moon treat for anyone trying to maintain a sculpted physique.

At least that was the case until Halo Top came on the scene. Marketed as a low-calorie, high-protein alternative to the full-fat option, Halo Top has proved a saving grace for all ice cream lovers who previously had to forgo their favourite dessert.

But just how healthy can ice cream be, and can you really have a whole tub for under 400 calories?

Those are just two of the questions we’ll be looking to answer today as we take a deeper dive into the creamy world of Halo Top. So without further ado, let’s get into it.

Halo Top Ice Cream: The Breakdown

Halo Top Ice Cream

Before we delve into the macros, let me first give you a bit of the backstory as to how Halo Top changed everyone’s perception of the world’s favourite frozen treat.

Fittingly launched in the summer of 2012, Halo Top became an instant hit across the globe and is sold in more than 25 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany and Korea.

The company’s focus is centred around permissible indulgence, and at the heart of that is its first-ever product – delicious ice cream that’s only 360-400 calories per tub but still tastes great.

Next, Halo Top launched its creamy plant-based tubs – that are dairy-free and vegan – and made with oats. What’s next? Who knows, but it’s bound to be tasty.

It’s currently available in eight mouth-watering flavours: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Brownie Batter, Strawberry Cheesecake, Oat Milk Chocolate Hazelnut, Oat Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cookies and Cream, Oat Milk Triple Chocolate Cake and Salted Caramel.

Is Halo Top Ice Cream Good For You?

Now we get to the all-important question on everyone’s lips, can ice cream actually be good for you? In short, yes. Or at least significantly better for you than the full-fat alternatives.

You only have to look as far as the ingredients to see that Halo Top has made some key switches that make it a much more macro-friendly treat.

The main ingredient is reconstituted semi-skimmed milk, which saves all important calories and most importantly, fat, compared to full cream milk.

Also in the mix are everyone’s favourite go-to breakfast protein, eggs, alongside coconut oil. While eggs and coconut oil still contain fats, they’re known as what are called ‘healthy fats’. Unsaturated fats carry lower disease risk and can actually improve heart health, so although the reading on the tub may still seem high, it’s a bit of a misnomer.

Rounding off the formula there are still some ingredients which aren’t considered healthy, such as sugar, brownie pieces and cream, but they make up a much smaller percentage than most traditional ice creams. So what does all this mean?

In every tub, there are 4, 69g servings that return 4g of protein, 3g of fat, 9g of sugar and 4.5g of dietary fibre. Much like anything in life, Halo Top is only truly healthy in moderation. If you work your way through a whole tub you’ll be consuming a good amount of protein but also a decent amount of sugar to boot.

Now we’re only human, and I know all too well how hard it is to stop once you’ve started. So if you struggle with self-control when it comes to food then why not opt for the handy 90g tubs instead? Even so, calories are king, and if you do make your way through a whole tub then it’s only 360-400 for the lot!

Where To Buy Halo Top Ice Cream

Halo Top is available in nearly every supermarket, but if you want to cut out the middle man then why not get it directly from the website? Let your hair down (just a little bit) and grab yourself a tub today!
