Matt Morsia Tore His Bicep Tendon in “Freak Accident” While Filming Gladiators

Matt Morsia Reveals Shocking Weight Loss After Surgery to Repair Torn Bicep Tendon

Matt Morsia reveals he was hospitalised for almost two weeks following a “freak accident” while filming Gladiators.

Legend, who’s become the villain everybody loves to hate on the show, was tackling a fellow contender in one of the games when he tore his distal bicep tendon off the bone.

Having initially hoped it was a strain or “mega cramp”, Morsia — who’s also a Huel and Gymshark athlete — soon realised the extent of the damage when he got backstage.

His bicep was completely displaced, despite admitting it felt ‘weird but not painful’ at the time.

“A few weeks ago I tore my distal bicep tendon off the bone whilst filming Gladiators,” Morsia revealed on Instagram.

“Surgery went really well and I’m gonna be back in no time because I’m a genetic freak, but I’ll be honest and say the last three weeks have easily been the worst of my life.”

The surgery, which took place five days after the horror injury, involved anchoring the uprooted tendon back to the bone.

Despite the grisly operation going as planned, Morsia — who became famous under the YouTube tagline MattDoesFitness — soon started to experience fallout symptoms.

He began vomiting after every meal, dropping from the ‘best shape of his life’ at 97kg to 82.5kg due to what was later discovered as acute gastritis and oesophagitis.

The star spent almost two weeks bed-bound at Sheffield General Hospital, experiencing daily bouts of sickness and trouble even standing.

“I had intense post-operative sickness, didn’t eat for 12 days, and lost around 15kg in bodyweight,” he added.

Matt Morsia praised staff at the hospital and BBC for their support during the ordeal, as well as expressing gratitude to his wife, Sarah.

Thankfully, the online star is now back home and recovering with his family.

Matt Morsia is one of the flagship athletes expected at Gymshark’s first-ever Lift London event this coming weekend.

He’s currently pushing to be well enough to attend and greet fans — though it’s highly unlikely we’ll see him in any of the PR cages.
