Mike Sommerfeld Looks Ahead to Arnold Classic UK After Disappointment
The 2026 Arnold Sports Festival had it all: controversy, the world’s biggest brands, and even bigger bodybuilders.
It was a weekend that gave us several major headlines, from Sam Sulek’s professional debut to Andrew Jacked taking home the sport’s largest pay cheque to date.
Amid all the happenings, there was a notable setback for Mike Sommerfeld. The Classic Physique competitor was a hot favourite heading into the event, having won the division the year prior.
However, on Thursday, March 5, news broke that “Mike The Badass” had missed weight and wouldn’t be taking to the stage – much to fans’ disappointment.
The German powerhouse has since released a statement, not shirking any of the blame for the unfortunate mishap.
“Heading into the show, the weight didn’t come down enough to meet the Classic Physique limit,” he wrote to his Instagram followers.
“I take full responsibility for that. Moments like this don’t define you – they humble you. We reset, we readjust, and we move forward.”
Classic Physique is one of the most structured divisions in bodybuilding, with strict height-based weight caps in place to protect the aesthetic balance and proportions that define the category.
Despite chatter of Sommerfeld expecting to be remeasured, he took the setback humbly and thanked his coach and event organisers for their support, while wishing fellow athletes good luck.
“I want to sincerely thank the IFBB Pro League and the organisers for their kindness and professionalism throughout this process,” he added.
“I also want to thank my coach Neil Hill who has always looked out for my best interests and is an incredible mentor to me.”
What’s Next for Mike Sommerfeld?
All is not lost for Mike Sommerfeld. The Arnold Classic UK is scheduled for March 27–29 and, according to his statement, Sommerfeld plans to be there.
“The focus now shifts forward,” he continued. “See you at the Arnold Classic UK.”
The event has grown in stature in recent years and now marks a key stop on the IFBB Pro League calendar.
For Mike Sommerfeld, it represents a chance to compete with top athletes from around the world, put the weekend’s blip behind him, and fine-tune his conditioning – all without majorly extending contest prep.
While it might not have been plan A, it’s also great news for UK fans, who will have a chance to see one of bodybuilding’s best flex in the flesh.
Tickets for the Arnold Sports Festival UK are still available. Head to the event’s website for more information.
