The US Olympic Committee (USOPC) has launched a legal battle, filing a lawsuit in Colorado on Friday against popular sports drink brand co-founded by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, Prime Hydration. The sports governing body claims the brand has illegally used Olympic trademarks on a special edition drink featuring basketball superstar Kevin Durant.
The USOPC alleges that Prime has deliberately misused Olympic symbols and phrases to mislead consumers into thinking there’s an official partnership. According to the committee, a cease-and-desist letter was sent to Logan and KSI. However, this didn’t deter the sports drink brand as it reportedly pressed ahead with its marketing campaign.
This won’t be the first time Prime has come under scrutiny. Many fitness influencers on social media have called out Prime Energy for its high caffeine content. In addition, some schools in the UK have banned students from consuming the energy drink as they deem it unhealthy. ‘
Earlier this month, US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called for an investigation into Prime due to concerns over its caffeine levels. Responding to the investigations, Prime maintained that it complies with all regulatory requirements in the countries it operates.
Prime’s popularity stems from Logan Paul and KSI’s massive social media following. Launched in 2022, the sports drink brand has collaborated with prominent sports teams and athletes, including partnerships with Arsenal FC and the LA Dodgers.
With regards to the Olympics lawsuit, Prime has yet to publicly comment.
