Ovrload Gummies Scandal: Johnny Lye Speaks Out on Supplier Betrayal Ahead of Explosive Relaunch

Ovrload Gummies Are Back — But What’s Really Changed?

Ovrload owner Johnny Lye has described the last few months as the “hardest chapter yet” after supplier betrayal almost buried his business.

The young founder was rapidly scaling Ovrload as a major disrupter in the supplement space — until controversy struck earlier this year.

In March, accusations began to surface that the brand’s best-selling Crealyte Gummies contained, well, little to no creatine at all.

Influencer and online myth-buster James Smith shared test results to his 431,000 YouTube subscribers showing that instead of the advertised 1.5g of creatine per gummy, there was, in fact, just 0.0848g.

“Looking at this we can assume there was once creatine in the whole of China, where the factory exists — it’s that little,” he said.

Creatine gummies are not what you think.

Industry rivals Known Nutrition also got in on the act, sending their own samples of Ovrload gummies to a lab for testing.

Again, results confirmed the efficacy was way off, with only 0.05% of the claimed dose.

Ovrload swiftly reacted by releasing a statement and halting sales while it conducted an “immediate and thorough investigation” — adding that it was in the process of establishing an alternative supply chain partner.

And then? Silence… until now.

Lye updated Ovrload’s Instagram for the first time in three months with a video of him speaking directly to fans.

Ovrload gummies are coming back — and this time, there’s no margin for error.

Ovrload Gummies: The Statement

The video statement is the first time Lye has directly addressed supporters since news of the controversy first broke.

In an honest, remorseful recount of what unfolded, he laid bare everything that led Ovrload to this point — from manufacturer deception to lessons in business, dealt the hard way.

“Two months ago, we were made aware of a potential manufacturing issue with some of our products,” he said.

“So, I wanted to get in front of camera and explain our side of the story and, also, what we’re doing to fix it.

“I started Ovrload when I was 18, fresh out of school with a passion for health and fitness, and no idea of what I was doing when setting up a business.

“After months of trial and error, in April 2024, we launched Crealyte Gummies, and it took off faster than I could have ever imagined.

“We had thousands of five-star reviews — before I knew it, we were a team of six. But we were struggling to keep up with demand.

“So last year myself and some of my team went to China to visit the manufacturer that we’d entrusted with making our gummies.

“We spent four days out there and they showed us everything — how the gummies were developed, quality assurance, and the whole product creation process. And we left confident about the future.

“But fast-forward to February this year, and some posts started popping up online. Claims that our gummies weren’t meeting label claims.

“Samples sent directly from the production line to the best third-party testing facility in the world showed that everything was in check.”

Lye said he initially believed the exposés were just competitors trying to tear Ovrload down. But as the noise grew louder, he had no choice but to pause sales of Ovrload gummies and conduct his own testing.

What he discovered confirmed his worst fears. While there were some legitimate batches, Ovrload had been sold — and was selling — plenty of duds, too.

“Most results show that they did in fact contain creatine, though often it was 15–20% less than we had claimed,” he added.

“However, some batches showed even bigger gaps; that some of the gummies we had been sold contained next-to-no creatine.

“After everything we had built, the manufacturer we had trusted had been cutting corners without us knowing. As a founder, it’s my job to make sure our product meets the highest quality standard.”

Ovrload Gummies: Road to Relaunch

At just 20 years old, Lye’s short journey with Ovrload has been a rollercoaster few entrepreneurs experience in a decade.

From near-instant success to public humiliation, it was a downfall most would struggle to recover from.

While conducting due diligence is a core responsibility for any business owner — especially in the supplement space — it must be remembered that Lye is very much learning on the job.

He misplaced his trust in a supplier and got burned. Now, he’s determined to make that right for customers who essentially bought sweets as Ovrload gummies.

Lye and his team say they’re already in the process of backdating refunds for anyone who received defective batches.

A new production line is now up and running, with stringent testing procedures in place to prevent any repeat dramas, as he explains:

“Though we weren’t aware of what was going on, it still falls on me to make it right.

“Ovrload was built on pride, transparency, and trust — in everything we create. That’s never going to change.

“So here’s what we’re doing now. We’ve moved manufacturing to a trusted, mainland Europe supplier. Every batch will have multiple samples tested by both Informed Sport and Eurofins.

“Every pack will have a QR code linking to our new transparency portal. Every certificate, ingredient — everything.”

Lye’s comeback is being spearheaded by two new flavours of Ovrload gummies: Sour Green Apple and Peach Iced Tea.

The exact relaunch date is yet to be confirmed, though Ovrload’s website and socials have been updated with the message: “missed us? We’ll be back soon.”

Concluding his message to those who’ve stuck by him during this turbulent period, Lye said: “This has been the hardest chapter yet, both for me personally and for our small team, and we’ve learnt a hell of a lot.

“I started Ovrload from my bedroom at 18, and I could have never imagined the journey that we’d go on. That’s because of you.

“The people who believed in Ovrload from the start. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, and see you soon.”
