Girl math is not adding any calories from drinks to your daily total because, well, they don’t count, right? Unfortunately, reality doesn’t quite align with that wishful thinking.
Many of us are guilty of only keeping score of what we eat, forgetting about the other bits and bobs that make their way past our lips daily.
Take coffee, for instance. We stroll into a coffee shop in the morning, revving up the engines for the day ahead, but who’s bothering to check the macros in those little cardboard cups?
Unfortunately, the mindset of ‘if I don’t look, it can’t hurt me’ won’t be very helpful for your nutrition in the long run. So, in an attempt to provide some unwanted enlightenment, we’ve taken a peek at the macros inside your beloved latte from Starbucks.

What’s Included?
Before we delve into the numbers, let’s chat about the ingredients. A classic latte packs two shots of Signature Espresso, Blonde Roast, or Decaf (if you’re into that), along with steamed semi-skimmed milk.
We’ve done our research, and the two most popular cup sizes at Starbucks are the Tall and Grande.
A Tall latte packs a total of 132 calories, breaking down to 4.5g of fat (4.4g saturated), 12.1g of sugar, and 9.8g of protein.
Meanwhile, the larger Grande delivers 175 calories, with 6.1g of fat (5.8g saturated), 16.3g of sugar, and 12.9g of protein.
So, there you have it. Lattes may be rich in protein, but they also harbour a surprising amount of sugar. Who would have thought?
