From Skeptic to Superfan: My Honest Choc Pot Review
Chocolate has — and probably always will be — my kryptonite.
I can walk by a bag of crisps without a second thought, swerve the sweets aisle, and happily pass up a bowl of chips.
But there’s just something about that rich, buttery taste of chocolate that keeps pulling me back in.
Of course, enjoying chocolate in moderation is nothing to feel guilty about.
Moderation, though? Easier said than done.
A couple of squares quickly turns into a whole bar, and before I know it, I’m sat clutching my belly like a kid who’s gone wild at the corner shop.
There are plenty of low-calorie chocolate alternatives out there — believe me, I’ve tried most of them. But they’re always missing something.
Sometimes it’s that odd, artificial aftertaste. Other times, it’s a lack of depth — that velvety, satisfying richness you just can’t fake.
So when I heard about Sweet Freedom’s Choc Pot — a plant-based, low-calorie chocolate spread promising all the flavour without the regret — I was cautiously intrigued.
Setting aside the pained memories of failed experiments gone by, I grabbed myself a case (shoutout code GYMFLUENCERSAGENCY for 15% off) and got stuck in.
Here’s what I thought.
What is Sweet Freedom’s Choc Pot?
Sweet Freedom’s mission is all about making the world a little sweeter — minus the sugar crash. You might have seen the brand’s bear mascot rearing his cheeky head on the shelves of your local supermarket.
That’s because this all-natural operator boast an ever-growing range of calorie-conscious sauces, syrups, spreads, and, most recently, drinks, all made from a signature blend of fruit.
The best-selling Choc Pot follows that same blueprint. It’s the first ever vegan chocolate spread containing absolutely no palm oil.
It also happens to be half the calories of Nutella, with 75% less fat.
With multiple Great Taste Awards under its belt, Sweet Freedom has won the hearts of countless sweet-toothed snackers — vegan or not.
Can it win mine? Let’s find out.
Taste Testing Sweet Freedom’s Choc Pot
My guard was very much up going into this taste test. I’m a bit of a chocolate purist — if it doesn’t hit like the real deal, it’s not getting top marks. No exceptions.
Sweet Freedom’s Choc Pot also had the added disadvantage of following a long line of disappointing low-calorie chocolate alternatives I’ve tried over the years.
Despite starting on the back foot, it quickly exceeded all expectations.
The texture was the first surprise. Thick, silky, and genuinely indulgent. None of that weird gelatinous wobble or chalky finish you often get with “guilt-free” spreads.
It looked and felt like proper chocolate, and crucially, it tasted like it too.

The flavour is rich and slightly dark, with a deep cocoa hit that’s balanced by a mellow, natural sweetness. It’s not trying to be Nutella — and that’s a good thing.
There’s no overpowering hazelnut or synthetic aftertaste. Just smooth, chocolatey satisfaction.
It also spreads beautifully on toast, melts like a dream into porridge, and holds up surprisingly well on its own by the spoonful (a test I take very seriously).
I sampled the OG and Caramel varieties, and both were a hit. Of the two, the OG just about nicks it for that pure, chocolatey injection.
My go-to post-dinner sweet treat is a few dates dunked in Sweet Freedom’s Choc Pot. Chef’s kiss.
What’s Sweet Freedom’s Low-Calorie Secret?
As a self-confessed chocoholic, it’s easy for me to get bogged down in the flavour. But how Sweet Freedom achieves it is equally impressive.
The Choc Pot is a combination of carob and apple extracts, cocoa, and natural flavourings. That’s a whole lot more tempting than the lab experiment of artificial sweeteners you’ll typically find in low-calorie alternatives.
This all-natural recipe weighs in at just 14 calories per serving, with only 1.9g of sugar — all from fruit. Plus, it’s also a source of fibre, making the Choc Pot a smarter pick all round.
Is It Worth the Money?
If you, like me, love your chocolate but aren’t so much of a fan of the accompanying belly ache, Sweet Freedom’s Choc Pot should be high on your wish list.
I’m yet to try a low-calorie alternative that comes remotely close. It’s “I can’t believe it’s not chocolate” levels of tasty.
You’ll find it stocked in the UK’s biggest supermarkets, but the best deals are to be had online.
Six 250g Choc Pots come in at £20.10 on a one-time purchase, or less if you subscribe. Want to save yourself even more? Use code GYMFLUENCERSAGENCY at checkout for 15% off.
