From Renaissance to Retail: Travis Kerry’s Cheeky Swypes Stunt Turns the Louvre Look Viral
Swypes co-founder Travis Kerry just made a loud statement in the quiet halls of high art.
The actor-turned-entrepreneur clearly has a flair for the dramatic — and he used it to grab aesthetes’ attention as they browsed the great works of time gone by in London’s National Gallery.
Radical thinkers like Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt, Botticelli, and Jan van Eyck all have their masterpieces displayed on the walls of Trafalgar Square’s cultural hub.
They were joined by an unlikely neighbour as Kerry pulled off his “riskiest” stunt yet in a bid to spread the good word of Swypes.
Armed with a tote bag and a fake Mona Lisa — complete with a “fresh vibes only” T-shirt — Kerry set out to add the newest work of art to the National Gallery’s collection of over 2,300 pieces.
“I was so nervous,” he admitted, while sneaking past security.
Despite being pulled aside, Travis made it through with his contemporary spin on the Louvre look.
“Surrounded by security watching my every single move, we had a task on our hands,” he added.
Having circled one of the many halls waiting for the perfect moment to strike, Kerry finally found a window. He stuck Swypes’ very own Mona Lisa to the wall — and people couldn’t get enough.
Tourists were swerving the centuries-old art to snap a picture of La Gioconda’s new look.
The mission was a masterstroke in guerrilla marketing and one that drew a standing ovation from the internet. Just under 100,000 people watched the moment back on TikTok.
