Fans of eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and footballing icon Lionel Messi were sent into overdrive by news of the Argentinian star’s new sports drink.
Mas+, a hydration beverage filled with electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals, will be hitting the shelves worldwide later this month.
But amid all the hype, some people couldn’t help but notice the tipple’s colourful packaging looked a little familiar.
The bright bottles have been compared to KSI and Logan Paul’s rival hydration drink, PRIME, with the former even calling out the resemblance online.
In response to the announcement of Mas+, KSI tweeted: “Looks familiar…”
“Talk about recycling,” one fan replied.
While another chimed in and said: “Easy lawsuit.”
Despite the controversy, Mas+ will be available around the world from June 14.
“Hydration is essential to overall well-being,” Messi said in a press release. “I believe everyone deserves a drink with amazing ingredients and taste.
“Mas+ is a drink I’m proud to share with family and friends. Because everyone deserves to feel like a champion in every part of their life.”
Messi, who is currently plying his trade at Inter Miami after leaving French giants Paris Saint-Germain, toyed with more than 450 names before landing on Mas+.
Explaining how he landed on the drink’s final branding, he said: “This name captures what my life and career have always been about: Más means more.
“I believe we can always give a bit more, and I’ve achieved more than I thought was possible by thinking positively.”
