THE Pre-Workout eliminated my mid-workout slumps, and here’s how.
I don’t envy the influencers on my Instagram feed for their flashy cars, beautiful partners, perfect bodies, and nomadic lifestyle – well, maybe just a bit.
I envy them because going to the gym is quite literally their job. Sandwiching training between my 9 to 5 and the general trials and tribulations of life, it’s very rare that I get through an entire workout without yawning.
The first few sets fly by without issue, but as I get to the latter stages, I’m counting down the reps to home time.
‘That’s why you take pre-workout,’ I hear you say. Believe me, I’ve gulped and dry-scooped plenty of formulas to no avail.
So, when a new product hits the market, I’m first in the queue to buy it in the hope of solving my lethargic tendencies.
That was very much the case when MyProtein dropped its new MyPro range, and more specifically, THE Pre-Workout.
Touted as an ‘elite formula’ and promising explosive results, I simply had to put it to the test. Here’s the full scoop…
‘Face-Itchingly Brilliant’

MyPro’s creation features all the major players you would expect in an ‘elite’ pre-workout formula, delivering an explosive boost through 200mg of caffeine and guarana extract, along with a healthy 3g dose of creatine.
Creatine is an absolute must in any pre-workout as it saves me buying millions of separate powders. The fact nearly every personal trainer and influencer lists it in their top three supplements speaks for itself.
It truly makes a difference if you’re trying to increase your strength, power and overall performance, so to see it included in THE Pre-workout at a functional dose is an instant big tick.
If you scan the label, L-Citrulline and Beta-Alanine are likely to jump out at you. Both are well-studied ingredients commonly found in pre-workout formulas, helping you go deeper into your session by improving blood flow and delaying fatigue.
Beta-alanine is also the amino acid responsible for that crazy face itch. Some people dislike it, but as an agent of chaos, I personally can’t get enough of it.
Both L-Citrulline and Beta-Alanine are present in generous quantities in THE Pre-Workout (4g and 2g, respectively).
Could you find higher doses elsewhere? Yes, you could. Pre-workouts like GHOST boast slightly more, but they cater to people who have been knocking back potions for years.
As a brand that caters to the masses, the measures in THE Pre-Workout do just fine, and they’ve already been upped from MyProtein’s previous recipe.
Plus, if you’re really that bothered you can always just chuck an extra half scoop into your shaker.
Rounding off the formula are L-Glutamine, AstraGin®, BioPerine®, Capsimax®, and various vitamins such as B6.
The Review
Now that we’ve covered the contents, let’s get into the real reason you all came here: the review.
THE Pre-Workout is available in a mouth-watering range of flavours, including Orange Mango Passionfruit, Cola and Lemon Sherbet.
I chose Grape since it was one of the few tubs left on the decimated shelves of Asda’s health and fitness aisle. I’d imagine that was largely due to people frantically buying last-minute Christmas gifts for their gym-loving friends and family.
As instructed, I dropped one scoop into 300ml of water, and before I even had the chance to shake it up, I was taken aback by the chemistry experiment unfolding in front of my eyes.
It looked like a bath bomb, and I mean that in the best way possible. When I’m buying a pre-workout, I want it to look and feel like pure weapons-grade uranium.
After tearing my gaze away from the colour show, I gave it a vigorous shake and sent it down the hatch.
I try to be as honest and transparent as possible while reviewing products. As much as I wanted to love this pre-workout, it pains me to say I wasn’t a huge fan of the smell or taste.
It wasn’t awful by any stretch of the imagination; I just expected it to be slightly juicier.
However, I’m glad to say that’s where the disappointment ended. The performance of this pre-workout was everything I expected and more.
Shortly after consuming it, I was met with the all-too-familiar face itches and a gentle yet potent rush of energy. I lifted heavy, got an insane pump, and left the gym a very happy man.
Instead of the usual flash-in-the-pan pre-workouts, this formula lasted the duration of my hour-long session and then some.
Once my current 30-serving tub is finished, I might opt for a different flavour, but I’ll definitely be sticking with THE Pre-Workout.
The Price Of A Good Pre
