Thor’s 510kg Feat: A New Deadlift World Record
Hafthor Bjornsson is now officially responsible for the three heaviest deadlifts of all time.
The Icelandic giant smashed his own record at the Eisenhart Black Deadlift Championships in Bavaria on 26 July, hoisting a staggering 505kg.
But as thousands gathered at the 2025 World Deadlift Championships in Birmingham at the weekend, he went one better.
Thor, as he’s fittingly known, capped off the event by pulling 510kg (1,124lbs) — a truly historic feat of strength.
Bjornsson only returned to the sport last year after walking away from strongman in 2018.
He’s now back with more gas in the tank than ever and believes he could easily surpass the deadlift world record a fourth time.
“Crazy how easy it felt,” he wrote on Instagram after going further than any man had before.
“I honestly believe I could have deadlifted 530kg yesterday. What do you guys think?”
Considering how effortlessly the bar moved to full lockout, he might just have a point.
Double Delight for Thor
Both the Mutant World Deadlift Championship and Strongman Open fell to Bjornsson at the Utilita Arena.
While his record-setting deadlift rightly grabbed all the headlines, the former Game of Thrones star put on an incredible all-round display on the Giants Live stage.

Mexico’s Austin Andrade and England’s Adam Bishop both produced 470kg deadlifts — the closest to Bjornsson’s mammoth feat, yet still a whopping 40kg short.
Proving how little the deadlift world record took out of him, the man mountain went on to complete five more gruelling events, clinching victory in the Strongman Open with an 8-point margin.
He came, conquered, and raised the bar to staggering new heights.
The Deadlift World Record in Numbers
Bjornsson has now added 10kg to bitter rival Eddie Hall’s previous 500kg deadlift world record. Hall became the first man to rip over half a tonne in 2016, with the picture of blood pouring from his nose now etched in strongman folklore.
That achievement was the fourth time Hall had set the record in his career, but the two quite literally came to blows when Bjornsson bested it by 1kg in 2020.
Already holding a firm dislike for one another, Hall questioned the legitimacy of Bjornsson’s lift as it was completed in his home gym during the pandemic.
The war of words paved the way for a clash-of-the-titans-style boxing match, which Bjornsson won by unanimous decision.
Now seemingly on better terms, Hall congratulated his former nemesis for the deadlift world record in Germany.
This latest outing, however, puts it beyond doubt: Bjornsson is the undisputed king of the lift.
