The trains being on time, perfect internet, no zoom meetings, these are things that make your day a little bit easier. Another one is HelloFresh. I imagine most of us have heard about it or seen an advert for it but if you haven’t, you might want to check it out. HelloFresh is a meal kit service which gives you the opportunity to cook tasty meals without the hassle of buying the ingredients, measuring everything out and then leaving the rest of the contents of the tins and packets in the back of the cupboard, never to be eaten again.
HelloFresh
It’s very easy at the end of the day to order a takeaway, throw a microwave meal in for 2 minutes or have your 4th bowl of cereal of the day, we don’t really want to do that, well not every day at least! We want a fiery fish taco, a gravy drenched sausage and mash, a cheesy chorizo pasta….this is like an old M and S advert…a hearty meal goes a long way at the end of a long day working or looking after the kids.
HelloFresh offers you the chance to cook fairly easily without the boring, tedious bits. Here’s how it works, from start to finish.
Once you’re on the HelloFresh website you’ll see the option to view their boxes, this is basically going to give you the option to choose the number of people and the number of recipes per week you want to order for. You can then decide what kind of recipes you want to see; mostly meat, veggie, family, etc. Then the fun begins, you choose your recipes and there is definitely a wide variety, it’s actually quite hard to narrow it down to around 4 recipes. You place your order; it arrives on the day you choose and everything is placed into numbered bags that correspond to one of the recipes you ordered. Everything is measured out, if you need 250g of spaghetti, then that’s what they give you. Simplicity at its finest, whilst still giving you the self-gratification and pride that comes with cooking a decent dinner!
In terms of HelloFresh as a concept, there’s not really much for me to say, it’s fantastic, it’s easy and I genuinely couldn’t say a bad word about it. So instead, I will talk you through the meals I ordered, cooked and definitely enjoyed.
The Food
Speedy creamy chorizo and sweetcorn pasta: An easy meal that I don’t think you can go wrong with, from start to finish it took 20 minutes and tasted great; carbs, veggies and meat – if you’re a traditionalist that’s all you need really isn’t it!
BBQ sausage skewers (with cheesy wedges and pea shoot salad): These were a treat, once you’ve cooked your way through the sausage and mash book and maybe thrown a sausage casserole in there, there isn’t too many sausage-based meals you can think of. This was a great alternative and almost felt quite fun to eat, the BBQ sausage skewers with onion and pepper were very reminiscent of, well, a BBQ and the cheesy wedges were delightful. Would definitely recommend this meal.
Stir-fried hoisin chicken noodles: A takeaway at home, a ‘fakeaway’ some would say, we really enjoyed eating this one on a cold, damp Wednesday as it gave us that comforting feeling. Again, a 20-minute job which makes the enjoyment even greater. Much like a Singapore noodle/chow mien dish you may order from your local, loved it!
Coconut Caribbean style soup: A risk in my household…which turned out great! Sweet potato and kidney beans thrown in for some substance made this dish, something I did not expect me and my partner to enjoy, yet we both ate the whole thing.
Discount
If my extensive review hasn’t convinced you yet I’d definitely give HelloFresh a go as it makes cooking fun again which I feel like a lot of us have lost. If you get it on a good day you may be lucky enough to see a deal online, 50% off your 1st order and 35% off the next 3, was the deal when I had a look today.
If you struggle to cook at the end of the day, this will really help you. Enjoy.
