Women in Sport: The Biggest Events of 2025 to Watch Out For

The last few years have been fantastic for sports lovers, and especially for women in sports, but 2025? It’s looking like it’s going to be seriously next level! Female athletes have been dominating the headlines in recent years, breaking records and inspiring millions of aspiring athletes to get out there and give it their best.

From Simone Biles stunning the world with her performances at the Olympics last year to the Lionesses’ epic victory at the Euros in 2022, women in sport are finally getting the recognition, support, and backing that they deserve. And 2025 is looking like it’s going to be a huge year for female athletes and sports stars, with loads of events across a massive range of sports on the calendar.

This year, we’re talking packed stadiums, fierce rivalries, and unforgettable moments across sports like rugby, basketball, football, tennis, and more. It’s not just about the action on the field or court; it’s about celebrating women in sport and how far we’ve come in recognising their talent and hard work. From record attendance at football matches to groundbreaking moments in athletics, female athletes have been smashing expectations and raising the bar.

What’s really exciting is how packed the calendar is in 2025. So let’s take a look at the top events taking place this year for women in sports:

Women’s Ashes

The Ashes returns for 2025 with Heather Knight’s England team hoping to grab victory from the Aussies for the first time in over 10 years. The women’s Ashes is a bit different from the men’s, with the competition being played across all three formats – a one-off Test, three T20s, and three one-day internationals.

Britain’s Strongest Woman

Expect a display of exceptional strength in Great Britain in 2025. This event features some of the country’s strongest women, such as Donna Moore, Lucy Underdown, Rebecca Roberts, and more.

Date: 19th, July, 2025.  

Scotland Women’s Six Nations Rugby

Taking place in Hive Stadium, Edinburgh, Scotland, the Six Nations tournament spells out RUGBY at its finest. Catch Scotland taking on rivals at the iconic Murrayfield Stadium. 

Here’s what to expect:

  • The intensity of each game and the screams of passionate fans in Scotland Vs Wales, on 22 March 2025 and Scotland Women Vs Italy, on 13 April 2025.
  • Location: The Hive Stadium 

Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

England will be hosting the Women’s Rugby World Cup for the first time since 2010, and the Red Roses will definitely be fighting for victory on their home turf!

The tournament kicks off on the 22nd August, with John Mitchell’s England taking on USA at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. Time will tell if they’ll have a chance to take on New Zealand again after losing out to them in the final of the last World Cup.

Women’s Euro 2025

Can the England team secure another Euros victory off the back of their epic win in 2022? Only time will tell!

This year’s Women’s Euros take place in Switzerland and Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses will be kicking off their tournament against France, before taking on the Netherlands and Wales in the group stage.

Cardiff Dragons Women’s Netball

Catch the 2025 Cardiff Dragons season from February 22-June 14, 2025, live at the House of Sports and Utilita Arena, Cardiff, Wales. The 2025 season promises to be worth the hype as the Cardiff Dragons combines the best players from every corner of Wales in combination with outstanding international talent.

Women’s Champions League Final

The thrilling final of the Women’s Champions League is set to take place in Lisbon at the Estádio José Alvalade, but time will tell which teams will be fighting it out to claim the title!

Date: 25th May 2025 

Tour de France Femmes

The fourth edition of the women’s Tour de France cycling race is set to be the longest yet, covering 9 days of riding. The route is also a tough one, featuring the main ascents of Col de Madeleine and Col de Joux Plane, and with a mountaintop finale at Châtel.

There’ll be some tough competition too, with last year’s winner Katarzyna Niewiadoma from Poland looking to hold on to the yellow jersey while the legendary Anna Van der Breggen makes her return to the sport after previously retiring.

Dates: 26th July – 3rd August, 2025
