Fresh Food Delivered To My Door! My Honest HelloFresh Review

I absolutely adore cooking, but what I don’t adore is having to rustle something up from scratch when I get home from work and working out at some obscene hour in the evening.

I’ve tried to find healthy alternatives such as macro-friendly ready meals and freezer food that aren’t too unhealthy, but it just doesn’t compare to having a proper meal at the end of a long and hard day.

With the market booming and everybody talking about it, I decided I’d try out a meal delivery service, more specifically HelloFresh. Here’s what I thought…

Going into this experience I was slightly skeptical about the cost. I had always loved the concept but the only reason I hadn’t dipped my toe in the water earlier was that I was convinced my weekly shopping would be cheaper if I made everything from scratch. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the breakdown per portion.

Price/Discount

I selected to have 5 recipes per week for 2 people, with the idea of having my extra portion for lunch the next day. The box would have cost me £40.49, which I already thought was more than reasonable, but as a nice little welcome gift, HelloFresh gives you 60% off your first box, bringing the total down to £16.20. Get yours Here.

At that price, I felt almost guilty going through and piecing together my recipes for the week, but my morales quickly went out the window when I got a glimpse of the selection. I’m a bit of a foodie and I love different types of cuisine. One day I’ll have a hankering for something spicy and oriental, while on another I’ll be in the mood for a hearty yet healthy dish. And Hello Fresh’s selection really did cater for my every mood.

Recipe Choices

I picked the BBQ Spiced Beef and Rainbow Veggies, Chilli-Garlic Honey Prawns & Cheesy Crushed Potatoes, Quick Sweet Chilli Pork & Crunchy Noodles, and Creamy Indian Chicken Curry. If you were already hungry when you started reading this, I’m sorry.

What I Thought

My box arrived on time and like a kid at Christmas, I gleefully unpacked it and rifled through my goodies. Everything was really helpfully packaged so it made it really easy to put away in the fridge and cupboards. Plus, it was all well in date so I didn’t have to spend time working out what to cook first to keep anything from going off.

The recipe cards were clear and easy to follow and I loved having the perfect measurements, especially as someone who’s used to buying a big bunch of herbs or a huge bag of spinach only to throw it all out later.

Taste

I won’t waste your time with a bite-by-bite analysis of every meal, but each one was absolutely delicious, quick to make, and came out exactly as it should have. I also found myself cooking with different ingredients which I found to be a nice little perk.

Dishing Up with Stacey and Joe | Episode 1| HelloFresh

As for the macros, every meal I selected was off the scale. As we’re entering winter I’m trying to up my calories and put a bit of size back on, so the 43.2g of protein and 89g of carbohydrates in my chicken curry was an ideal way to round off my day of eating.

Aside from the food itself, I like that all the packaging was recyclable as it did feel as if I was throwing a lot away. Overall I was chuffed with my box and can honestly say HelloFresh has earned itself a long-term subscriber. I can’t wait to see what’s on the menu next!
