Jake Paul will welcome UFC veteran Nate Diaz to boxing after the two agreed on a deal to fight in Dallas on August 5.
Following years of back and forth, both parties have now inked terms and will settle their differences in the ring.
Despite not being a boxer by trade, Diaz, who turns 38 in April, is a renowned striker and spent time in the sport before signing a deal with Dana White’s organisation.
The recent expiration of that deal left the revered southpaw free to explore the possibility of a fight with Paul – who is looking to recover from the first defeat of his professional career at the hands of Tommy Fury.
However, Diaz insisted a return to the UFC is still very much on the cards. He said: “Besides Canelo, he’s the biggest thing in boxing. I’m here to conquer that. I’m the king of combat sports, and then I’m headed back to get my UFC belts.
“I f*cked Conor (McGregor) up for acting out and now here I am again, like a superhero for the real fight game, the king of the real fight game.”
Paul, 26, said: “Nate Diaz is considered one of the most bad-ass fighters of all time, but he and his team have been running their mouths for too long.”
He added: “I haven’t forgotten about the slap backstage in Arizona, and on August 5, the ‘Problem Child’ is going to piece up and knock out the ‘Stockton G’.”
Despite Paul’s promise of a knockout, the fight has left a lot of fans and fellow fighters underwhelmed.
American mixed martial artist Sean Strickland tweeted: “Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz such a f*cking joke. I’m no
t hating on either for making money from this clown show, I’m hating on the fact a RETIRED 155er is fighting a juiced Tiktoker at 185 who lost to a recreational boxer Tommy Furry.”
Meanwhile, renowned troll Dillon Danis said: “Jake Paul loses to the only ‘pro’ boxer that’s his age & weight class who is actually terrible and immediately returns to boxing retired smaller MMA fighters with CTE.”
Some, however, are looking forward to the bout. Terrance McKinney said: “I can’t wait for the press conference and sh*t talking.”
Sean O’Malley added: “Omg Diaz vs Paul. Holy f*ck boys, I’m hyped.”
