On the 30th July, Abigail “Abbey” Weitzeil added Olympics gold and silver medals to the already overflowing stash she had back home. The gold and silver medals were for Mixed 4x100m Medley Swimming Relay and 4x100m freestyle respectively.

Career Highlights

Aged 27, Abbey has been a member of Canyons Aquatic club since she was twelve. She was a four-time CIF champion while in Saugus High School. In 2015, she was the fastest female swimmer in American high school history with a record time of 47.09seconds.
While in University of California, she was given the 2020 Honda Sports Award for being the best female collegiate athlete. Even during the 2020 pandemic when movement was restricted and public places were avoided, Abbey went to functional pools and trained.
It paid off because Weitzeil became the first University of California, Berkeley athlete to win a medal at the 2020 Olympics in any sport. There, she achieved a personal best time of 52.99 for 100m freestyle.
She was also the American record holder in the 50-yard freestyle sometime.

Life Outside Swimming
Abbey is planning to marry fellow USA swimmer, Michael Jensen, later this year. When she’s not in the pool, she enjoys decorating her home and exploring new places. Abbey also cherishes spending quality time with her family and her dogs, who are a big part of her life. With her upcoming wedding and her love for adventure, this year is shaping up to be an exciting one for Abbey.
