The Epic Story Behind Maxx Chewning’s Rolex

Why Maxx Chewning’s Rolex is More Than Just a Watch

Anyone who follows Maxx Chewning on social media might have spotted he recently treated himself to a swanky new Rolex.

Granted, a successful social media star and entrepreneur buying a nice watch is hardly breaking news. But it’s the story behind the timepiece that makes this purchase so epic.

As is well documented, the 35-year-old sold Sour Strips Candy to American confectionery giant Hershey in 2024.

The latter’s annual report revealed it paid an eye-watering sum of $75.5 million to Maxx for the acquisition, which he described as a “life-changing” amount of money.

The YouTuber started the brand just five years earlier as a way to bring “sour candy that doesn’t suck” to the masses.

Armed with its signature angry fruit mascots, bold flavors, and the backing of the fitness community, Sour Strips took off instantly—selling 20,000 units within the first hour of launch.

As a symbol of that incredible ride, Maxx Chewning’s Rolex is engraved with the two dates that changed his life for good.

“Picked up my first Rolex to mark the moment in time that was my Sour Strips journey,” he wrote to fans on Instagram.

“What started as a goofy idea on my 30th birthday 9-9-19 quickly turned into one of the fastest-growing sour candy brands of my generation, to then be purchased by Hershey on 11-08-2024.

“My younger self could have never imagined the outcome that my life has been so far, but I hope that when I look down at this watch it reminds me of the work that went into the idea that changed my life forever.”

Maxx and his wife, Taylor Leigh Chewning, are set to welcome their son, Charlie Colton, to the world next month.

Charlie’s official due date is just two days before Maxx’s birthday, with an outside chance he could even arrive on the same day.

“I can’t wait to give this sucker to my son in the future,” he continued.

For the watch fanatics, Maxx Chewning’s Rolex is a 40mm Platinum Day Date, worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Though, given the significance — and the generational wealth he earned through scaling Sour Strips to sweet success — it’s not an investment he’s ever likely to part with.

Maxx is still involved with Sour Strips on a daily basis. He remains determined to help Hershey turn it into a household name.
