Why Gym Goers Love Frive Meal Prep

Frive meal prep helped me get my fitness routine back on track, and here’s how.

To meal prep or not to meal prep—that is the eternal question gym-goers like you and I ask ourselves on a weekly basis.

Our internal struggle isn’t helped by angry online personal trainers constantly barking at us through our phone screens while we doomscroll on TikTok.

“The problem with people nowadays is they’re just too lazy to cook,” they cry.

Here’s a radical thought: have they ever considered that we might just be too busy? This ‘no excuses’ culture is all well and good until you genuinely have a valid excuse.

In life, something has to give, and if you’re managing to smash the gym, push on at work, and appreciate the people around you, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to not want to spend hours a week in the kitchen weighing, cooking, and portioning meals with clinical precision.

That’s not to say we have to ram fast food and meal deals down our throats. There’s a happy medium in all this, and that happy medium is Frive meal prep.

A few weeks ago, I put my feelings of guilt aside, defied the TikTok preachers and decided to take the plunge and order my first-ever Frive bundle. Here’s what I thought…

Frive Meal Prep

Those of you who have used meal delivery services before may be familiar with the name Lions Prep. Not too long ago, Frive formerly Lions Prep went through a period of evolution and rebranded as Frive.

The move was designed to propel its offerings to a wider market, expanding beyond the classic gym bro crowd to give more people a way to eat well.

Don’t get it twisted—Frive still bears many of the same hallmarks as the tried-and-tested methods Lions Prep developed over its tenure.

The meals are still high in protein, macro-controlled, balanced, and insanely tasty; it just feels a little less bodybuilder-centric than before.

It’s a change of pace that aligns nicely with where the fitness scene is right now. My training is still fairly weight-focused, but many people have shifted away from pumping iron, opting instead for functional fitness or running, for example.

Anyway, you didn’t come here to listen to me whittle on about brand ethos. Let’s talk about the food!

7 Delicious Dishes

Frive offers 40% off your first week as a little welcome treat, so I figured I might as well go all out and make the most of the deal.

I got seven mains (yes, seven) that featured dishes from a variety of cuisines. These included Vietnamese Sea Bass, King Prawn Korma, Thai Basil Beef, and Creamy Garlic Tuscan Salmon.

No day of eating is complete snacks and sides, so I decided to chuck a few of those in too for good measure.

When my care package arrived, I unboxed it like a kid and Christmas and spent far too long deliberating on what I wanted to tuck into first.

Writing this review, I find myself in a similar spot. Every single morsel was out of this world, and I had absolutely no idea where to start.

If I was forced to pick a favourite, I would have to say the King Prawn Korma. It was creamy, nutty, and fragrant, and I could have quite easily steamed through six of them in one sitting.

On taste alone, Frive meal prep is at the top of the tree when it comes to meal prep. But there’s so much more to like about these meals.

I’m a sucker for convenience, and at times I do find myself chowing down on some fairly heavily processed garbage just to say I’ve hit my macros for the day.

Even when something is branded as being ‘healthy’ or ‘high in protein‘, the long list of sweeteners, preservatives and various other unidentifiable ingredients tell a different story.

If you flip over a Frive meal and check the label, all you’ll find is fresh, quality produce and natural ingredients. When I said these meals got my training back on track, it wasn’t a platitude.

I honestly felt so energised and motivated, and that was all down to fuelling my body with the right stuff.

The best part is I didn’t have to sacrifice anything. All the meals were microwaved in minutes, and it all cost less than what I typically spend a week on food on the go from the shops, even without the discount.

Frive Meal Prep Macros

These dishes didn’t feel like your typical meal prep. They were so delicious, that I almost forgot to check the macros, yet when I did, I was even more delighted.

All my mains packed between 30 and 43g of protein, a controlled dose of carbs for energy, and a nice helping of heart-healthy fats for balance.

Even the sides were little macro powerhouses. The Turkey Bacon Bean Egg Mushrooms had 33g of protein, while the Mexican Chicken Avocado Salad returned 22.5g of the good stuff.

I used to have to really plan out my day to hit my protein goal, whereas, with Frive meal prep, it was an absolute doddle. There was even a QR code on the front of every package that would scan the macros directly into MyFitnessPal. How neat is that?

If you haven’t guessed already, there’s no doubt that I’ll be a returning customer. Frive emphatically checks every box, and it has solved my meal prep conundrum for good.

Get Your First Frive Order

To join me on the dark side, all you have to do is head to Frive’s website and start sculpting your plan. You can select dietary preferences, choose your source of protein, how many meals you want a day, and how many days you want covered.

The menu changes every week and includes breakfast options, so there’s already something new to get stuck into.

Prices vary depending on how much you want to stock up on, but just to give you an idea of the price, two meals and a snack a day for five days will cost just £65.28 with the discount applied.
