Could Dr. Mike Israetel Transform Thor Into a Bodybuilder?

Thor Reveals Dr. Mike Israetel’s Bodybuilding Proposal

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, otherwise known as Thor, has revealed that Dr. Mike Israetel wants to turn him into a bodybuilder once his strongman career comes to a close.

The Mountain recently cemented his status as the undisputed king of deadlifts, ending his feud with Eddie Hall by hoisting a spine-crushing 505kg.

His record-breaking pull even earned praise from Hall — a former bitter rival on the strongman stage and later in the boxing ring.

Following the landmark achievement, the Icelandic powerhouse welcomed Dr. Mike Israetel to his very own Thor’s Power Gym.

During the visit, Thor shared that Dr. Mike, one of the world’s leading authorities in sports science, strength training, and bodybuilding nutrition, encouraged him to enter the bodybuilding circuit.

“Dr. Mike Israetel wants to turn me into a bodybuilder after my strongman career,” he wrote to his 4.3 million Instagram followers.

“I’m 200kg (440lbs) in this photo. He thinks I could look incredible if I would put in the work and slim down to 160kg.

“I think 175kg would be good… What are your guys thoughts?”

Could Thor Thrive Under Mike Israetel’s Coaching?

At 6’9″, Thor would certainly make an impression on stage during a bodybuilding pose-down.

Still, given that the ex-Game of Thrones star just shattered a world record — and already has his sights on 510kg — it may be some time before he veers away from the strongman path.

He’s currently in a bulking phase, moving in the opposite direction of the 160kg target Dr. Mike Israetel suggested.

Regardless, Thor could do far worse than having Dr. Mike in his corner. The fitness guru is a fountain of bodybuilding knowledge, having authored multiple books on training, recovery, and nutrition, while also competing himself.

Now 41, Israetel holds a PhD in Sport Physiology and serves as the head science consultant for Renaissance Periodization.
