Everything You Need to Know About the New Doritos Protein Chips

There aren’t many snacks that offer a moreish crunch quite as satisfying as a pack of Doritos.

And soon, folks in the US will be able to get a hit of protein while they chow down on their favourite tortilla chips, as PepsiCo looks set to debut Doritos Protein.

Here’s what you need to know.

‘An expansive innovation agenda’

The new Doritos protein chips were informally announced as a concept in late 2025.

In a press release, PepsiCo, the group behind Doritos, said it was working on “functional offerings that remove artificial colors and flavors, provide simpler ingredients, and include more protein, fiber and whole grains.”

That roadmap was described as an “expansive innovation agenda”, which, in simple terms, means it is releasing more products that align with tighter food processing laws and appeal to the growing number of health-conscious consumers.

What’s the deal with Doritos Protein?

There’s no official launch date for these new protein-packed tortilla chips, but they are starting to appear in supermarket listings – albeit currently showing as out of stock.

We don’t know how many flavors there will be, but we do know Sweet & Tangy BBQ will be one of them, thanks to Walmart.

As for the key stats, each 7oz bag will contain 7 servings of the ‘zesty’ Doritos protein chips (around 10 triangles).

For a 150-calorie serving you’ll get 10g of milk protein – a generous 20% of your daily recommended target.

And, promising that same “big iconic crunch” with no artificial colors or flavors, this latest innovation looks destined to be a fan favourite when it finally arrives.

Ideal for Gatherings

Like regular Doritos, PepsiCo has centred the marketing for these new protein chips around get-togethers and hosting, saying they’re great for parties, game nights, or simply as a tasty functional treat on their own.

We’ll have to wait and see how they land with the market, but if the current protein craze is anything to go by, the macro-boosted chips will fly off the shelves.
