Swimmer Marius Kusch signed on the dotted line with the Enhanced Games in September 2025, becoming the controversial competition’s first German athlete.
Here are three things you need to know about the 2020 Olympian ahead of the inaugural Games in May, where he’ll take part in the 50m and 100m butterfly.
He Was a Standout Collegiate Athlete
Marius Kusch enjoyed a highly decorated National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) career at Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina.
He won multiple national titles in butterfly, freestyle, and individual medley events, and set NCAA Division II records in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley.
His collegiate experience helped him develop into one of Germany’s leading sprint swimmers, and he spent much of his senior career training in the United States.
Marius Kusch Had Multiple Successes at European Levels
Kusch had notable successes on the European stage, the first of which was a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly at the 2017 European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen.

In 2019, at the same competition in Glasgow, he won gold in the 100m butterfly, setting a German national record with a time of 49.06 seconds.
He was also a brilliant relay swimmer, contributing to a bronze medal performance in the 4x100m medley relay at the 2018 European Long Course Championships.
He Competed on the World Stage
Marius Kusch further established himself as a top-level swimmer on the world stage.
He won a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly at the 2022 World Short Course Championships in Melbourne, and also represented Germany at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (which took place in 2021), where he competed in both individual and relay events.
