Global Fitness Racing Brand DEKA Lands in the UAE

Fitness racing fans in the UAE will soon be able to take on DEKA as the brand lands in the region this month.

The rollout is being led locally by ITP Media Group, with DEKA Middle East the latest arm in a growing network that stretches across the United States, Australia, Canada, China, Europe and beyond.

What is DEKA?

DEKA is a functional fitness race series created by Spartan – the same organisation behind Spartan Races and Tough Mudder.

In contrast to Spartan’s outdoor obstacle events, DEKA offers a structured, gym-hosted, all-season race format built around consistency and standardisation, allowing participants to measure performance accurately and track their improvement over time.

With several distinct fitness challenges in the series – FIT, MILE, STRONG, ATLAS, and ULTRA – athletes can choose the races that suit them best based on their strengths.

Dubbed the decathlon of functional fitness, DEKA almost always uses the same 10 fitness zones in every event, and formats vary mainly in running volume, workload, and overall intensity.

For instance, STRONG features all 10 fitness zones back-to-back with no running; MILE adds 160m runs between each zone, totalling one mile; and ULTRA expands to 5 circuits of the standard 10 zones, teamed with 25km of running for maximum endurance.

What can athletes in the UAE expect?

DEKA is set to make its Middle East debut with a FIT race on March 28 at Skydive Dubai, giving athletes in the region their first chance to experience the series in a live competition.

Participants can take part individually or in two-person teams. Elite athletes will also have the opportunity to vie for a cash prize, adding an extra competitive edge.
