Meet Joseph Hall. At 6’5”, this former football player turned competitive bodybuilder has spent years pushing his body to its limits.
And now, he takes on a new challenge as ‘Lightning’ on Prime Video’s American Gladiators reboot.
1) He’s a Former American Football Player
Lightning spent time competing on the football field before redirecting his athletic ambitions to the gym; a transition that has clearly paid off, given the his immense physique.
2) He’s a Competitive Bodybuilder
Lightning competed at the North Americans in 2025, one of the most prestigious events on the NPC bodybuilding calendar. He placed 7th overall.
3) He Uses Setbacks as Fuel
After placing 7th at the North Americans, Hall wrote on Instagram that he sees the result not as a failure but as an opportunity to keep fighting and prove that he belongs.
“I placed 7th overall at the North Americans. Some might see that as being a ‘loser’ or ‘not good enough’, but I see it differently”, he explained.
“To me, this is an opportunity to show others what it means to keep fighting, that when you fall, you get back up and prove that you belong.”
If he takes that attitude into the Gladiators Arena, he’ll be one to watch. The American Gladiators reboot will land on Prime Video on 17 April.
