3 Facts About American Gladiators Star Michael ‘Fang’ Wardlow

Michael Wardlow doesn’t need an introduction in the world of professional wrestling.

But for those who don’t follow All Elite Wrestling (AEW), here are three facts about the man stepping into the Arena as ‘Fang’ on Prime Video’s American Gladiators from 17 April.

1) He’s a Three-Time AEW TNT Champion

Fang – known more commonly as Wardlow in the wrestling ring – earned a WWE tryout early in his career but wasn’t offered a contract.

Undeterred, he spent years building his reputation on the independent wrestling scene, winning multiple titles before signing with AEW in 2019.

Wardlow made his debut that November and quickly established himself as one of the promotion’s most dominant performers, going on to become a three-time AEW TNT Champion.

Along the way, he was ranked as high as No. 47 in the PWI 500 in 2023, cementing his status as one of AEW’s top stars.

2) He Has a Background in Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Before professional wrestling, Wardlow trained in both boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu at a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu camp. The rumour goes that, on his first day, he executed a perfect double-leg takedown on his instructor.

3) He Grew Up in Modest Circumstances

Fang grew up in Middlefield, Ohio, and was raised by a single mother alongside two older sisters.

The family experienced financial difficulties, and he began contributing to household income as a teenager.

He started strength training in elementary school with a Bowflex home gym, and spent his high school years practicing with the football team rather than socialising with peers.
