James Smith Claims Obese People Shouldn’t Do Sit-Ups

James Smith has said obese people shouldn’t do sit-ups in another no-nonsense, no-holds-barred, and sweary rant on his Instagram page.

The tough-talking personal trainer who is famed for his honest approach has instead insisted people who are trying to trim their weight should first tunnel their energy into tracking their calories

James Smith said: “Doing sit-ups isn’t inherently a bad thing, I mean they are a bit of a stupid exercise. I’d rather you do some core work, and the majority of core work isn’t always about doing crunches, it’s often anti-extension stuff.”

He added: “People are always arguing over whether or not overweight people should be doing sit-ups. If you’re going to spend 10 minutes a day doing sit-ups, you might burn a few calories, you might make those abdominals a little bit stronger going into flexion.

“But if fat loss is truly your main objective, that 10 minutes can also be spent logging your shopping into MyFitnessPal.

“A small percentage of you are going to be like, ‘oh my god, tracking food, eating disorders, oh my god’.

“But for the majority of people, quite literally the majority, that 10 minutes can be better spent.”

“Do that for two weeks,” he added. “Does it work, yes or no? You tell me.”

“If yes, keep doing it, if no, maybe start tracking your dinner a little better.”
