Dream Big: The Olympia Movie Pulls Back the Curtain On Bodybuilding’s Elite
Amazon Prime is celebrating 60 years of bodybuilding excellence with the release of Dream Big: The Olympia Movie.
The documentary, directed by Russian filmmaker Vlad Yudin, follows the buildup to last year’s Mr. Olympia finals, which saw the legendary competition mark its diamond anniversary.
Filmed during the planning of the historic 60th edition, Dream Big: The Olympia Movie has been described as a “landmark feature” that takes audiences deep inside the most prominent event in the world of bodybuilding and fitness.
The film aims to capture the passion and cultural impact of Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend, challenging the preconceptions of the sport’s elite.
“I think people look at bodybuilding as a bunch of juice heads that take supplements, get on stage, and that’s really about it,” said Mr. Olympia President Dan Solomon in the official trailer.
“But it’s not just what you do in the gym; it’s the 23 hours you’re doing outside of the gym. Nutrition, the posing — they have to put in so much work to be able to get where they’re at.”
Several of bodybuilding’s biggest names (and frames) feature in the documentary, including some of 2024’s winners.
Samson Dauda provides a sit-down interview on his backstory and journey to Olympia glory, foreshadowing his podium-topping performance in Las Vegas.
This year’s Mr. Olympia champion, Derek Lunsford, also plays a starring role. Lunsford won the Men’s Open in 2023, placed third in 2024, and then reclaimed his title in the 61st edition in October.
There are plenty more icons on show, including Hadi Choopan, Andrew Jacked, Nick Walker, and reigning Ms. Olympia queen Andrea Shaw, who’s won the division every year since its return in 2020.
Dream Big: The Olympia Movie premiered on Tuesday, 9th December, and streams on Amazon Prime. It’s included with Prime memberships and is well worth the 1 hour and 38 minute run time if you’re a fan of bodybuilding and its most celebrated weekend.
