Mitchell Hooper Crowned World’s Strongest Man 2026

Mitchell Hooper gave a masterclass in competition consistency as he claimed the World’s Strongest Man 2026 title over the weekend.

The 30-year-old Canadian came second in every event as he powered through the competition, regaining the title he first won in 2023.

Remarkably, it is the first time in the competition’s 48-year history that an athlete has taken the overall crown without winning a single event.

How the World’s Strongest Man 2026 Competition Unfolded

The 2026 SBD World’s Strongest Man competition took place from April 23-26 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with 25 athletes from 11 countries going head-to-head across ten events.

In the end, Hooper edged out defending champion Rayno Nel of South Africa by just two points in one of the most dramatic finishes Strongman has ever seen.

Nel dominated the first day of the finals, winning the Flip & Carry, Deadlift, and Titan’s Toss, but Hooper stayed close with second-place finishes in each.

A day-two tie for second in the Max Log Lift cut the gap to just one point heading into the Atlas Stones – the final event.

With everything on the line, Nel held the advantage through the first three stones before slipping on the fourth, giving Hooper the opening he needed to move ahead and seal the title.

American Trey Mitchell rounded off the podium in third – the only athlete to place all five stones.
