Everything You Need to Know About the Pure Genius Protein Shot

The aptly named Pure Genius protein shot has been pulling up trees as a pocket-sized solution for packing more protein into everyday life.

Since launching in January, the small-yet-mighty tonic has earned thousands of fans across the US and secured a flagship listing at Target, both in-store and online.

Backed by clinicians and two determined founders, the newcomer appears in no mood to slow down anytime soon.

But what’s been the recipe for its seemingly overnight success? Here’s everything you need to know about the Pure Genius protein shot, from its origin story to details on macros and ingredients.

Discovering Genius

While the Pure Genius protein shot officially debuted in January, its story stretches back to early 2024.

Co-founder Giacomo Zacchia discovered a unique whey protein shot used by athletes and trainers in Europe, quickly realising nothing like it existed in the United States.

He enlisted the help of RP Strength, nutritional scientists and leading manufacturers in the protein space to develop a high-quality product for professional athletes and serious bodybuilders.

The first version – Genius Shot – took almost a year to create. In late 2024, Mel Robbins joined the team and recognised the need for quick, convenient protein beyond the four walls of a gym.

With a remapped mission and broader demographic, the Genius Shot launched in March 2025 as something of a test run among bodybuilders.

The mission was simple: assess whether there was an appetite for the product and learn what the market was missing.

In the pair’s own words, the “extraordinary reception” told them everything they needed to know.

Armed with insights from the initial launch, Robbins reinvented the product from top to bottom. Both the formulation and branding were overhauled under the guidance of leading scientific, medical and nutritional advisers.

What emerged was a formula built around whey protein (beta-lactoglobulin), collagen peptides and amino fortification, alongside a delicious line-up of fruity flavours.

The evolution was capped off with a new name – Pure Genius – and the first product run sold out within 24 hours.

What is the Pure Genius Protein Shot?

The Pure Genius protein shot essentially condenses all the benefits of a protein shake into a much smaller, ready-to-drink format.

Each mini bottle packs 23g of the muscle-building macronutrient into a 100ml (3.38 fl oz) serving containing zero sugar or fat, just 2g of carbs and 110 calories.

The protein system is primarily made up of whey protein (BLG) and bovine collagen peptides, offering benefits across muscle recovery, skin elasticity, bone strength, joint health and more.

There are also small quantities of the amino acids L-Histidine and L-Valine. Four flavours are currently available – Lemon Lime, Blueberry Lemonade, Pineapple and Strawberry Guava – each sweetened with monk fruit extract, stevia and natural flavourings.

Who is the Pure Genius Protein Shot For?

Pure Genius has broadened its horizons beyond bodybuilders and athletes. They’re still very much invited to the party, but the shot is designed for practically anyone chasing ambitious wellness goals with little time to spare.

As Robbins told People Magazine, “This isn’t about chasing a trend. It’s about making it easier for people to prioritize their health, especially women.

“If you’re busy taking care of everyone else, you’re probably not doing the best job taking care of yourself.

“I am so excited for everyone to have it – especially those who are working parents, first responders on 12 hour shifts with no time to stop and eat, those on GLP-1s who have no appetite and need protein to maintain muscle, caregivers with no time to cook, and anyone on the go who is trying to eat healthier and get more protein.”

Designed to be knocked back in seconds, the Pure Genius protein shot certainly delivers on convenience. Bizarrely, it’s TSA-approved, meaning you can even throw it in your carry-on for an in-flight boost.

Where to Buy the Pure Genius Protein Shot

You can shop the Pure Genius protein shot directly through the brand’s website, with prices starting at $48 for a case of 12 bottles.

They’re also stocked nationwide and online at Target, with more big-name retail announcements almost certain to follow in the coming months.
