What I Ordered From The Green Chef Vegan Plan

Whether you’ve made the switch to a vegan diet because of environmental, ethical or health reasons, you’ve probably found there’s a lot of information to take on board. My motivation for going (partially) green was slightly different. I recently moved in with my long-term partner who has been a fully-fledged vegan for several years now. 

We like to eat dinner together but found it a faff cooking in different pans or trying to merge different meals together, and hitting similar protein targets also proved a stumbling block.

So, I did what any astute businessman would – outsource it to the experts. Green Chef has created a vegan meal plan that works for everyone, whether you’re taking the first steps to a vegan lifestyle or have enjoyed a plant-based diet for years.

Those just starting out will enjoy the structure their plan offers. Containing only vegetables and plant-based protein, they’ve taken away the confusion of knowing what vegan food you can eat.

Plus, with recipes inspired by global cuisines, they’ve put variety back on the menu – perfect if you’re looking for new vegan meals to try. 

Before we go any further, I’d also like to dispel a couple of common myths about the vegan diet. Avid meat eaters will often tell you that following a vegan diet will leave you lacking in essential nutrients, notably iron, calcium and vitamin B12. 

But with proper planning and clever substitutions, you can get everything you need from your diet. Of course, that can be tricky to navigate while you are transitioning, but why not take away the stress of scanning packets and let Green Chef do the leg work?

I opted for Green Chef‘s most popular plan which provides four meals for two people per week. It was perfect to cover my and my partner’s dinners for the week while leaving Friday free for a little treat. However, if you are eating for one, I’d still recommend this plan as on the days she wasn’t home I ended up having a second portion for my lunch the next day. 

Green Chef rotates its recipes each week, so there’s always something new and exciting to try. I found the variation to be an absolute game-changer. I barely had the time to pick up ingredients from the shops before I started using Green Chef, let alone trying to think of new meals to make every week with unfamiliar ingredients. 

The one thing I would say about eating a vegan diet is that you can’t really fall back on the typical meat and veg meal. You have to be a little more creative, which I found a real chore before discovering Green Chef. 

For my box, I opted for Crispy Spiced Tofu & Cashew Satay Sauce with Jasmine Sesame Rice and Roasted Vegetables, Chana Masala & Gunpowder Sweet Potatoes with Tenderstem Broccoli, Refried Black Bean Quesadillas with Sheese, Guacamole and Tomato Salad, and Crispy Spiced Cauliflower Tacos. 

Each meal was fresh, surprisingly easy to prepare considering the complexity, and absolutely jam-packed with flavour. Not only that, but I was cooking with spices and ingredients I hadn’t even heard of before trying Green Chef. To say I was thoroughly impressed would be an understatement.
