Over 10,000 People Queued for a Sip of the New Puresport Ultra Electrolytes — Here’s Why

Puresport Ultra Electrolytes just dropped a new flavour — and over 10,000 people rushed to join the queue.

Puresport is a name becoming increasingly hard to ignore in the fitness space.

The squeaky-clean operator has been on fire so far in 2025, smashing it out of the park with a string of vibe-heavy community activations that have seen its fanbase snowball.

From Heathrow to plush hotel suites and Soho tables, the brand showed up where few competitors dared — welcoming runners to the capital for the London Marathon.

In yet another marketing masterstroke, Puresport built its very own electrolyte-fuelled pump to keep runners’ engines chugging on race day.

Puresport Run Club also has a 10-city nationwide tour lined up for June, as the collective sets out to back up its mantra: For the Long Run.

So when it dropped a new, limited-edition flavour of its meticulous Ultra Electrolytes, it was no surprise to see the Puresport community show up in full force.

More than 10,000 people signed up for early access, all hoping to get their hands on the ultimate thirst-quencher: Watermelon Salt.

Fuelled by big giveaways and plenty of hype, the latest iteration of Puresport Ultra Electrolytes was unmissable.

Here’s what you need to know — from last-minute campaign pivots to sugar-free sips.

Puresport Ultra Electrolytes: Watermelon (Zero Sugar) High

This hydration frenzy didn’t sweep through Puresport by chance.

The team had planned to unveil its new Watermelon Salt variety by handing out samples to runners at the Hackney Half Marathon earlier in May — a move mirroring the strategy that proved iconic at the London Marathon.

With the campaign locked in, product packed, and thousands of pounds already spent — including building a custom stand — Puresport was hit with a hammer blow just five days out.

An email from organisers relayed a last-minute call from a “very large, very sugary” sports drink sponsor: handing out electrolytes on race day would be considered a conflict of interest.

With months of prep hanging in the balance, Puresport was given two options:

  1. Take a full refund.
  2. Promote something else.

In the end, they chose neither.

Faced with a roadblock, most brands would’ve folded. But the Puresport team hit the gas.

Working around the clock, they sourced more than two tonnes of watermelon from suppliers across London in just a few frantic hours. What followed was one of the most ingenious pivots in recent race-day memory.

Instead of handing out their Puresport Ultra Electrolytes, they showed up with 7,000 slices of fresh watermelon — each dusted with a pinch of salt.

Those fuel pumps were put to good use, too. Stamped with a tongue-in-cheek sign making it crystal clear they weren’t serving electrolytes, they dispensed water for runners’ bottles.

Sweet, hydrating, and naturally electrolyte-rich, it wasn’t just a clever workaround — it was bang on brand.

Crowds loved it. Runners grabbed them in droves. And Puresport? They stole the show.

In the end, the last-minute curveball may have actually paid off better than the original plan. A juicy, eye-catching stunt that had everyone talking — while the “sugary” sponsor who blocked them unwittingly handed Puresport their biggest moment yet.

Call it an own goal. Or just classic Puresport problem-solving.

In the words of the brand: when life gives you lemons, hand out watermelons.

Puresport Watermelon Salt: Hydration, Defined

The new Watermelon Salt flavour features all the same highlights as the Puresport Ultra Electrolytes we’ve seen before — but with a limited-edition twist.

It’s the first time we’ve seen the better-for-you competitor stray from its neutral, minimalist packaging — opting instead for a vibrant red design that really pops.

Each stick delivers:

  • 1,000mg of Sodium
  • 250mg of Potassium
  • 100mg of Magnesium
  • 50mg of Tri-Calcium

The precise ratio of key minerals is complemented by a sugar-free formula sweetened naturally with stevia and watermelon flavouring — staying true to Puresport’s no-junk pledge.

It’s a synergy that just makes sense. Watermelon is the epitome of what dry mouths crave on warm days — and this drop has landed right on cue for summer.

Priced at £33 for 30 servings, the Watermelon Salt Puresport Ultra Electrolytes have hit general sale and are still in stock — for now, anyway.
