Meet The Foldable Bike Helmet That Finally Fits Your Head and Your Bag
An aspirational start-up has just launched the world’s first foldable bike helmet complete with the Mips Safety System.
Newlane debuted its packable helmet in late 2024, targeting city cyclists and e-scooter riders who forgo the potential life-saver because it’s too clunky to carry around.
Shrinking to just 81mm in height — 50% of the standard size — the ergonomic entry quickly gained traction among urban commuters.
The UK-based brand’s Original model features a magnetic buckle, rear reflector and EN 1078 standard certification — all while slotting into any backpack.
Now, Newlane is taking protection to new heights with a second ground-breaking foldable bike helmet that incorporates Mips (Multi-directional Impact Protection System).
“I cant believe I’m saying this, but we’ve just launched the worlds first foldable helmet with Mips,” wrote Newlane co-founder Josh Cohen in an announcement.

“We’ve spent years trying to solve the simple problem that people don’t wear helmets because they’re annoying to carry around.
“We’re a start up with tiny budgets but we’ve managed to make a big noise.”
Despite working with slim resources, Newlane has sold over 6,500 units of its foldable bike helmet in the UK alone.
The addition of Mips puts the newcomer in fine company among some of the top helmet brands in the world.
Originally developed by a brain surgeon and a biomechanics scientist — and now used across cycling, motorsport, climbing, equestrian and construction — the system has transformed the world of helmet safety.
Whereas traditional helmets are designed and tested for straight, linear impacts, most real-world impacts are angled. The resulting rotational motion is a major cause of concussions and serious brain injuries.
The Mips solution consists of a low-friction layer mounted inside the helmet. In the event of a crash, that layer is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to redirect forces away from the head.
Mips even went to the extent of manufacturing a bespoke system just for Newlane’s foldable bike helmet, Cohen added.
“Our original version is still absolutely awesome, but if you want to go that extra mile in terms of safety, we now have that option too.”
Newlane’s Mips Foldable Bike Helmet is currently listed for pre-order at £116.99. Sold in sizes Medium and Large and available in a White colourway, orders are expected to start rolling out from 17th November.
