Two Starbucks Coffee & Protein Drinks Heading For the Grocery Aisle

Last fall, Starbucks coffeehouses bought into protein mania by introducing protein lattes and cold foam as permanent menu items in Canada and the U.S.

The multinational said the “hype-worthy” additions would help to modernise its menu and appeal to consumers’ growing appetite for quick, functional nutrition.

Until now, enjoying the caffeine and protein combo ‘the Starbucks way’ meant visiting one of the chain’s many spots in North America.

That’s about to change, however, as the coffee juggernaut is set to double down on protein and launch a fresh assault on the grocery aisle.

Introducing Starbucks Coffee & Protein

Two new Starbucks Coffee & Protein beverages are set to release on March 23, blending premium coffee with 22g of complete protein.

Cramming multiple trends into one bottle, the drinks will also feature 5g of prebiotic fibre alongside five vitamins and minerals – all for just 2g of sugar and 150 calories.

“Consumers are looking for wellness solutions that fit seamlessly into their morning routines,” said Brian Smith, Senior Director, Brand Marketing, North American Coffee Partnership.

“Starbucks Coffee & Protein delivers both great taste and nutrients, offering 22 grams of complete protein and 5 grams of prebiotic fibre in a convenient, ready-to-drink bottle that supports busy lifestyles.”

Classic Caffè and Caffè Mocha are the flavours leading the launch. They’ll be rolling out across American grocery and convenience stores later this month for a suggested retail price of $3.99 per 12 fl. oz. bottle.

Both were developed through the North American Coffee Partnership, the longstanding joint venture between Starbucks and consumer packaged goods giant PepsiCo.

In addition to Starbucks Coffee & Protein, the brand will be rolling out several new drinks designed to “provide more options for those seeking lighter or reduced sugar beverages.”

These include Lite versions of its multi-serve Iced Espressos and zero-sugar Doubleshot Energy cans.
