Tim Wenisch and Alexander Rončević Shatter HYROX Doubles World Record

History was made at the HYROX EMEA Championships in London this weekend as Tim Wenisch and Alexander Rončević set a new Elite 15 Men’s Doubles world record.

But they didn’t just break the previous mark – they obliterated it.

The previous best – held by Rich Ryan and Pelayo Menendez Fernandez – stood at 48:31, but it’s now 47:40.65 after Wenisch and Rončević lowered it by more than 50 seconds.

Such was the level of their performance that their time was also quicker than the current Men’s Open World Record of 47:57.

Consistency From Start to Finish

German athlete Tim Wenisch (Adidas) and Austrian Rončević (Red Bull) started strong and stayed consistent throughout each station, with perfect pacing during the runs and an impressive display of strength and endurance across the various exercises.

But almost immediately after they’d accomplished the feat, Rončević was already looking ahead to their next event:

“It’s always nice setting records and everything. You have seen yesterday [that] records are going, records are coming. That’s the game we like to play.

It’s a nice feeling having the best time, but the courses are different, and Warsaw and Stockholm will be another game. We are really happy to have grown with the sport and [to be] still part of it. We’ll keep pushing the standards,” Rončević said.

He is, of course, referring to the HYROX World Championships in Stockholm and the next Elite 15 Major in Warsaw, where there’s a high chance that the record will be broken again.

Tim Wenisch: “We just needed one try”

Speaking after the London event, Wenisch had a cheeky dig at one of his closest HYROX rivals, American Hunter McIntyre:

“To be a European champion with Alex again means a lot to me. The race was fully fun, and a world record is always nice. I mean an athlete from America tried pretty often to break the world record, we just needed one!”, he joked.

Tim Wenisch and Alexander Rončević’s epic performance this weekend continues the rapid progression in the Pro Doubles division, where times are dropping at almost every comp as the standard of performance keeps rising.
